Company description Divers Alert Network (DAN) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit medical and research organization dedicated to the safety and health of recreational scuba divers and associated with Duke University Medical Center. Founded in 1980, DAN has served as a lifeline for the scuba industry by operating the only 24-hour diving emergency hotline, a lifesaving service for injured divers. Additionally, DAN operates a diving medical information hotline, conducts vital diving medical research, and develops and provides a number of first-aid and continuing education programs for everyone from beginning divers to medical professionals.
DAN is supported by the largest association of recreational divers in the world through membership dues and donations. In return, members receive a number of important benefits including $100,000 emergency medical evacuation assistance, DAN educational publications, a subscription to Alert Diver magazine, and access to diving`s first and foremost diving accident insurance coverage.

DAN`s Mission Statement:
DAN, a nonprofit organization, exists to provide expert information and advice for the benefit of the diving public. DAN`s historical and primary function is to provide emergency medical advice and assistance for underwater diving injuries, to work to prevent injuries and to promote diving safety. Second, DAN promotes and supports underwater diving research and education particularly as it relates to the improvement of diving safety, medical treatment and first aid. Third, DAN strives to provide the most accurate, up-to-date and unbiased information on issues of common concern to the diving public, primarily, but not exclusively, for diving safety. Location description: DAN provides comprehensive training to the dive community by disseminating the latest information on topics related to diving safety through articles, reports, seminars, lectures and training programs. Courses Offerings:
*Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
The DAN Oxygen Provider Course provides entry-level training in the recognition and management of possible diving-related injuries using emergency oxygen first aid.
*Advanced Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
This advanced-level program is designed to train existing DAN Oxygen Providers to use the MTV-100 or a Bag Valve Mask while providing care for a non-breathing injured diver.
*First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries
Serious hazardous marine life injuries are rare, but most divers experience minor discomfort from unintentional encounters with fire coral, jellyfish and other marine creatures. This course teaches divers to minimize these injuries and reduce diver discomfort and pain.
*Automated External Defibrillators for Scuba Diving.
More than 10 percent of all dive fatalities are actually caused by cardiovascular disease, according to DAN dive accident and fatality statistics. This course teaches divers and other interested parties to provide care for sudden cardiac arrest including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AEDs).

*Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen
The DAN Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2â„¢) system module supplements the DAN Oxygen First Aid in Scuba Diving Injuries course. Based on medical closed-circuit oxygen rebreather technology, the REMO2â„¢ device provides injured divers with high concentrations of emergency oxygen for extended periods. This training course instructs the Oxygen Provider in the use of DAN`s new REMO2â„¢ system.
*On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers
Learn how to conduct a neurological assessment on a potentially injured diver in this course. The information gained in this assessment can help convince a diver of the need for oxygen first aid, and help a dive physician determine the proper treatment.
*Dive Accident First Aid for Non-Divers

Learn the knowledge and skills from several courses into one single approach to dive emergency management.
*Diving Emergency Specialist (DES)
Learn about DAN’s new recognition program for divers who are interested in dive safety.

To become a DAN Instructor you must complete the Instructor Qualification Course (IQC). Instructor Candidates will complete a Core Module that offers more information about DAN and explains how to teach DAN programs. Candidates will then complete the course module for each DAN Training Program they are interested in teaching.
