Company description
The team is a group of volunteer divers primarily consisting of SCUBA Instructors, Divemasters, Tech and Rescue divers, including USCG licensed captains. We are willing and able to assist Law Enforcement and the Community in the recovery of persons or property from depths greater than the recognized sport diving maximum depth limits. But, MTRT does not limit their assistance to the greater depths, we will assist in many other environments when called upon.
Midwest Technical Recovery Team is a volunteer public safety dive team. We don`t typically do search and rescue, but we are trained to do so. Normally we do underwater search and recovery. We are trained to recover evidence that is lost underwater. MTRT offers training in public safety dive training to members of other public safety dive teams, or people who are sponsored by another team. Our members have dove in all five of the great lakes: Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, and Lake Superior. We also dive in many of the inland lakes around south east Michigan, and north east Ohio, like Devil`s lake, Silver Lake, Cass Lake, Crooked Lake, Whitestar Quarry, Portage Quarry, Gilboa Quarry, Glen Lake, and Torch Lake. Our members are mainly from the following counties: Wayne county, Monroe county, Oakland County, Macomb County, Washtenaw County, and Livingston County. We also dive in these counties: Lenawee, Sanilac, Huron, and Leelanau.
The team constantly trains at depths greater than the recreational limits, often in poor to zero visibility. We train year round, including under the ice. Team training consists of Public Safety Diving, Underwater Crime Scene Investigation, Trimix, Advanced Nitrox, Decompression Diving and Ice Diving.
Divers pay for their own equipment and training. They donate many hours of hard work training both in and out of the water. Team equipment is paid for by the team members and through donations from the community.
