As of 2003, the Boston Scuba Academy has trained and certified more than 10,000 students in scuba diving. We have a professional staff of 20 internationally certified Scuba Instructors, Assistant Scuba Instructors and Divemasters teaching throughout the Greater Boston area. Our instructor to student ratio in each course is Boston`s lowest, so we provide the most personal attention to your needs.

Open Water Scuba Diver

Courses are taught all year-round. We have the lowest course fees and only budget plans (with no finance charges) available in the Greater Boston area. All our courses and certificates are accepted internationally.
Open Water Scuba Diver Course
This scuba diving course consists of basic instruction in the principles of scuba diving, diving skills, and the operation of scuba equipment. It requires 28 hours of total instruction. It is comprised of two training sections—the academic and confined-water skills section and the open-water skills section.
Times: The course provides six 3½-hour lessons, each with 1½ hours of classroom lecture, ½ hour to move students and equipment to pool, and 1½ hours of pool scuba exercises.
Section Two: Open Water Skills
Open water (ocean) instruction will provide the student with a guided transition period for knowledge and skills learned in lectures and pools and apply them to open-water diving.
Times: This training section is comprised of 2-4 hour morning lessons conducted on a weekend at ocean dive sites. Saturday will consist of lectures along with one snorkel dive and two scuba dives. Sunday will consist of lectures along with two scuba dives.
Advanced Open Water Scuba Diver Course
This course offers two 1½ hour lectures and 5 dives, including navigation, search and recovery, night and 2 boat dives (deep and wreck). No skill testing or written exam is required for certification.
Prerequisites:
Open Water Scuba Diver Certification (e.g., NAUI, PADI, SSI, YMCA)
Minimum 10 logged dives (including 4 certification dives)
Minimum age 18
Log book and plastic decompression tables (map may be purchased at lectures)
Full set of scuba equipment (either your own or rental), including compass, 2 underwater lights and 2 tanks.
