Dive Into Success! We are the Divers Institute of Technology, where people come to fulfill their dreams of becoming successful commercial divers. Our graduates are working all over the world in nearly every aspect of commercial diving, including underwater welding, Non-Destructive Testing, underwater salvage and offshore exploration. We are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology and Internationally Certified by the Divers Certification Board of Canada (DCBC).
We are also members in good standing of several educational and commercial diving organizations. We pride ourselves on the fact that all of our training is conducted in “real world” open water, utilizing state-of-the–art equipment and technology. Our instructors bring a vast amount of experience and some continue to work in the industry to ensure that our curriculum remains up to date at all times. This type of training fully prepares our students for success in the commercial diving industry.
Our Mission Our mission is to provide advanced technical training that produces the most qualified, skilled professionals in the constantly evolving underwater marine industry. Guiding Principles To fulfill our mission everyday, we will be guided by these principles: Our FIRST CONCERN will always be the safety of our students and our staff. We will never sacrifice the quality of our services for quantity. We are student/customer centered in providing our services. We will treat everyone honestly and fairly, with dignity and respect. We will make it happen...we will take the actions necessary to achieve the results we are committed to accomplish. We will demand that everyone take the initiative and strive to continue to improve, everyday, in everything we do. We will employ the highest standards, for our equipment, systems and processes, business ethics, and compliance with laws and regulations. Check out our video and interactive photo gallery to see why Divers Institute is the best place to train as a commercial diver! Welcome to Our World video Diver`s Photo Gallery International Certification In September 2003 the Divers Institute of Technology was audited by and found to be in compliance with CSA 275.4 by the Diver Certification Board of Canada. This certification is fully recognized by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) of the United Kingdom and the Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) and all other diving and national certifying regulatory having reciprocity agreements with the aforementioned authorities. DIT is the first diving program in the U.S. to reach this goal. Additionally, the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) fully recognizes the DCBC certification our students receive without them having to log further dives after graduation. After determining that the growing demand for commercial divers, construction technicians, and support personnel could be met with standardized training, Divers Institute of Technology in Seattle, Washington was founded in 1968. Since its inception, DIT has had one goal: To ensure that all apprentice divers hold the essential, core skills necessary to compete in the commercial diving industry, whether it`s in the inland or the offshore sector. By the late 1970`s, the United States inland infrastructure – bridges, dams, water works, waste treatment facilities, power plants, and port facilities began to show their age and need for inspection and repair. So DIT incorporated the unique requirements of the inland diving community into the curriculum. Subjects such as Non-Destructive Testing and Hazardous Materials Handling and Removal were brought on board. Welding and cutting were expanded, and photography and underwater closed circuit television were added. Hydraulic-Tool Training, which was a new technology, was also added.
Some information about training: The course of instruction at DIT is built upon two uncompromising principles designed to benefit you. The first principle is that you will be trained in all phases of commercial diving, with an unyielding commitment to safety. It is our belief that student safety during training is of foremost importance. Our program is designed to train and test each student`s abilities, resourcefulness and capability to insure achievement. Secondly, the staff at the Divers Institute of Technology is committed to preparing you for a career, not just a job. Our decision to pursue the international diver certification through the Divers Certification Board of Canada (DCBC) was consciously made to provide our graduates a wider range of career opportunities and to allow them the ability to successfully pursue underwater work in the overseas markets. You`ll be prepared for not only for job entry, but for career advancement as well. You will also train in the natural environment – meaning you`ll learn to dive in the open water, not in tanks. This is a valuable advantage. In addition, you don`t have to be a SCUBA diver to enroll. This is paramount as you can begin your commercial diver training in our next available class. There`s only one place where you will find the unbeatable combination of dive training expertise, commitment to safety, and worldwide industry connections. All our students have the use of up-to-date commercial equipment including not only helmets, masks, and hot water suits, but also underwater welding and burning equipment, cameras (still and video), ROVs, hydraulic tools and other equipment required to successfully train during the course of the program. Modern, well-maintained equipment is an absolute necessity for intense comprehensive dive training. In addition to our expansive shore facilities, in-water barges and systems, our deep dive vessel, the M/V RESPONSE, sets us apart from the other schools. The 65 foot coast guard approved vessel is equipped with a multiplex multi-lock chamber, modern air and mixed gas systems, as well as hot water systems. It is underway three weeks each month, allowing our students to complete their Deep Dive Series, required by the Canadian Divers Certification Board.
