Jones` Aqua Sports, Inc. and the Champlain Dive Center offer instruction from beginner through advanced. Our instruction is done by a NAUI certified Instructor Trainer with over 30 years of diving experience. With NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors)training, you`re not just certified, you`re qualified.
We also let you know, up front, the cost of training. Take our entry level course for example. Once you purchase mask, fins, snorkel and boots (which are considered personal items that should fit you well), the rest is included. In addition to the instruction, you`ll have the use of all the necessary scuba equipment throughout your training, at least 5 certification dives including boat charter, your textbook, dive tables, certification card, and student discounts on purchases.
Enjoy a 1- or 2-tank charter aboard `Nugget` our 31` dive boat. With ample space for divers and their gear, `Nugget` will quickly deliver you to our many and varied sites around the lake. It also has a large area below decks for changing and relaxing between dives. Originally a sport cruiser, Nugget has a large cockpit area that easily accommodates up to six divers and their gear. Entries and exits are made from the dive platform across the stern. It even has a large raised dry area for cameras, towels and anything else you want handy but dry. Inside, there`s a roomy cabin with an enclosed head, full galley and berths for six. It`s perfect for relaxing between dives or changing into dry clothes.
Our shops have well-maintained air stations conveniently located for easy access by land or water. We can usually fill your tanks while you wait. All tanks must have proof of current hydro (every 5 years) and visual (annual) inspections. For your protection and ours, we conduct visual inspections utilizing eddy current technology to ensure your tank is safe. Both shops have complete rental programs. You can rent anything from a mask up to a complete scuba setup.
Location description: Over 100 miles long, Lake Champlain forms the border between Vermont and upstate New York. Plunging to depths up to 400 feet in places, Lake Champlain has something for every level of diver. With good visibility at all depths, we visit shallow sites with rocky or sandy bottoms, wall dives to over 100`, numerous wrecks from 30` to 110`, bottle sites, caves (for certified cave divers) and fun dives to popular anchoring areas to retrieve lost boating gear.
Here`s a sample of some of the dive sites we visit with our dive boat ``Nugget``.
The OJ Walker was built in 1862 in Burlington, VT and was a schooner-rigged sailing canal boat similar to its neighbor the General Butler. It is required that all divers sign up to dive this wreck. The wreck sits is 65 feet of water and it is recommended for intermediate- experienced divers. The ships wheel and aft cabin hatch cover are in place and are extremely fragile; please avoid contact. The mast, boom, anchors, and most rigging parts can be seen around the vessel. Many bricks and tiles still lie on deck and scattered off the port side along with the hand carts for moving them. PLEASE DO NOT disturb or take any artifacts. ** Diving permit required for this vessel. Do not penetrate the wreck! Removal of artifacts, Including bricks or other objects around the wreck is ILLEGAL.
Ferris Rock/Schuyler Island -
