Company description Charleston Scuba offers local diving charters from May through October off the Charleston coast each season. Come explore our absolutely wonderful wrecks, reefs and ledges teeming with the largest schools of amberjacks, spadefish, barracuda and grouper we`ve seen anywhere, not to mention the tropicals that inhabit our waters.
Charleston Scuba also offers river diving excursions for those of you who wish to take home some of our history with you. The South Carolina Lowcountry rivers have some of the richest marine fossil beds in the world. This area is world-renowned for the enormous fossilized shark teeth found by divers, some of which are as large as your hand and date back milions of years!!
We run weekly river dive excursions on the Cooper River with the area`s most experienced river dive captain, Capt. Tom McMillan of A Day On Cooper River. Capt Tom will always take divers to the best sites and we`ll guarantee you`ll find at least one fossil while you`re here diving with us!
We are Charleston`s only PADI 5 Star Instructor Development Center.
Classes are available from snorkeling level to Staff Instructor. We also offer Nitrox and Distinguished Specialty classes.
OPEN WATER DIVER $295.00-$475.00
Instruction is comprised of three classroom sessions and three sessions in the pool.
We complete certification dives locally through our charter service May through October and in Florida October through April each year. The dives are conducted off of a boat in each location, so you gain just the experience and confidence you need to enjoy dives on your own.
The following list is a description of the different types of class schedules as well as price information:
THREE WEEK COURSE SESSIONS $295.00
Twice a month we start three-week class sessions that are scheduled for Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. These classes are scheduled in the evenings from 6:30pm to 10:00pm and cost $295.00. The course fee includes all class materials, classroom and pool training sessions, all rental equipment and the certification card fee. Certification dives are not included in the cost of the course.
WEEKEND COURSE SESSIONS_$315.00
Once a month we offer an accelerated weekend open water class for those of you with previous experience, either as a diver or a snorkeler. The course costs $315.00 and is scheduled between a Thursday and a Sunday and all classroom and pool training sessions can easily be completed in a matter of four days. Classes are held in the evenings from 6:30pm until 10:00pm Thursdays and Fridays and most of the day on Saturdays and Sundays. The cost of the course includes all class materials, classroom and pool training sessions, all rental equipment and the certification card fee. Certification dives are not included in the cost of the course.
FLEX SCHEDULE COURSE SESSIONS $335.00
The flex schedule class is an option for those of you who have a small group of friends or family who wish to become certified and would like to do it on your own schedule. This class gives you more flexibility than the three-week sessions and can allow you to move along at your own pace. The cost of a flex schedule course is $335.00/per person and includes all class materials, classroom and pool training sessions, all rental equipment and the certification card fee. Certification dives are not included in the cost of the course.
PRIVATE INSTRUCTION SESSIONS $475.00
Our private open water class is an option for those of you who prefer undivided one-on-one attention with an Instructor and would like to be instructed around your own schedule and at your own pace. The cost for private instruction is $475.00 and includes all class materials, classroom and pool training sessions, all rental equipment and the certification card fee. Certification dives are not included in the cost of the course.
Location description: South Carolina has some of the best beaches in the south and these beautiful beaches surround the Charleston area and are just a short drive away.
Charleston is also one of the oldest cities in the United States and boasts a long list of historic places and buildings. Charlestonians have preserved their homes so that we can offer lovely topside scenery, in addition to our exquisite underwater diving.
There`s plenty to do: carriage tours, Revolutionary and Civil War forts, plantation tours, museum houses, antique stores and open air markets.
Charleston’s Historic Downtown District has stood throughout history as the cultural capital of the South and is considered by many to be a living museum, with a wonderful variety of things to do and see. In this beautifully preserved city you can experience tours through historic landmarks, including 18th century homes and plantations, the Battery, museums, churches and the city market. Charleston boasts numerous art galleries that display the city’s impressive appreciation for the visual arts. Charleston maintains all the ingredients necessary for a great vacation.
Charleston offers some of the most pristine beaches in South Carolina. Kiawah Island alone boasts 10 miles of beachfront, championship golf, world-class tennis and 30 miles of paved bike and jogging trails and was rated the ``Top Nature Beach`` by the Travel Channel and ranked third among ``Top North American Islands`` by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler. Seabrook Island is a very private Resort and Club with two great golf courses, a fine racquet club, a full service Beach Club with an oceanfront facility for meetings and weddings. The East Islands offer beautiful beaches and resort lodging, as well! Each Island offers great golf, tennis, boating, shopping and dining. Their close proximity to Historic Charleston`s attractions makes a beach or golf vacation on these islands truly special.
Some of our offshore dive sites:
THE FREDERICK W. DAY was a wooden schooner built in 1901and sank off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina on September 17, 1914, loaded with bags of cement. The bags have formed a reef approximately 200ft long with the top of the reef at 40ft and the bottom at 54ft. There is an abundance of fish and other marine life around the wreck, creating one of the nicest dives off Charleston. (Cost $80.00/2 dives)
THE CHARLESTON 60 WRECK is another site on which we conduct our Open Water
certification dives! A large sunken barge sitting in 60ft of water allows divers to explore without getting lost. You`re guaranteed to see large schools of fish, huge amberjacks, baracudas, spadefish and more! Large missile casings on the barge also make great swim-throughs. (Cost $85.00/2 dives)
