Company description If you live in or plan to visit Coral Springs, or the surrounding communities of Coconut Creek, Margate, North Lauderdale, Parkland, or Tamarac, think of us as your local scuba diving and snorkeling dive center. Visit our dive shop to see what`s new in scuba diving equipment. American Dive Center is managed on a day to day basis by Edward Murphy. When you call or when you are in the store, Barbara or one of our staff will be there to help you.
We sell name brand products at prices you can afford and if it’s for snorkeling or diving, we probably have it in stock.
For recreational diving, we feature Atomic, Aqua Lung (US Divers), Scubapro, Sea Quest, Sherwood, Uwatec, and Zeagle dive equipment. For technical diving, we feature technical gear by Dive Rite, Halcyon, and, OMS, and high performance regulators by Apeks, Atomic, and Zeagle. For exposure protection we feature wet suits by Harvey`s and Sea Quest and dry suits by DUI.
Book a trip to scuba dive the reefs and wrecks of Palm Beach and Broward County. American Dive Center features four local dive boats to provide the flexibility of location, schedule and underwater activities that experienced divers expect. Prices range from $50.00 to $58.00 per diver for a two tank, four hour trip without equipment. The price for riders is $40.00 per rider.
Rental rates for equipment range from $26.00 for two tanks and weights only, to $65 for ``the works`` including BCD, regulator, two tanks, weight belt and weights, a two piece wetsuit, and mask, snorkel, and fins.
If you only need tanks and weights, we can arrange to have these at the boat for you. If you need additional equipment e.g. BCD, regulator, wet suit, etc., plan on picking these items up at our store the day before a morning dive or the same day for an afternoon dive.
American Dive Center offers a full range of PADI training classes, from Open Water certification through instructor. In addition, we provide complete TDI Tech scuba training and education. Some of our courses:
Discover Scuba Diving Course 1 Day
Price Range $149.00
A safe and fun way to experience scuba diving for the first time. Your instructor will teach you basic theory and familiarize you with the equipment before guiding you on a controlled dive of limited depth, and practice with you in shallow water near the shore. Then you will make two dives under the close supervision of your instructor. The
price includes all diving equipment, and instruction by a certified diving instructor.
PADI Refresher Course 1 Day
Price Range $99
If it`s been a while since your last dive, or you feel that your skills and knowledge are a little ``rusty``, then take this PADI refresher course. Our instructor will review diving theory and skills, making sure that you haven`t forgotten anything! The half-day course includes classroom and shallow water training.
Open Water Diver Course 1-2 Weeks
Price Range $179.00
This internationally recognized training is for the beginner or uncertified diver and will give you the knowledge and skills to safely explore the underwater world. Completion of this course qualifies you for a PADI Open Water Diver Certificate that allows you to dive anywhere in the world. The course is divided in theory and practice sessions. The first two sessions are devoted to academic training and shallow water skill development sessions. During the remaining two sessions you will complete four supervised open water training dives allowing you the freedom to experience the beautiful tropical reefs or wrecks of Daytona Beach.
and other courses.
Location description: Coral Springs is located in Broward County just minutes away from the Fort Lauderdale - Hollywood International Airport and the Miami International Airport.
Two coral reefs run parallel to our shore at depths of 40 feet and 60 feet. These reefs lie about one mile off shore. Ship wrecks lie between and beyond the reefs.
Our favorite reefs: Lynn`s Reef, the Delray Ledges, Finks Grouper Hole with Caribbean Reef Sharks, the Sanctuary, and Mike`s Twin Ledges. Our favorite wrecks: the Captain Tony (85 feet), the Sea Emperor (70 feet) with tame Sting Rays, the Ancient Mariner (72 feet), the Captain Dan (110 feet), the Rodeo 25 (130 feet), and the Mercedes (97 feet).
The Captain Tony a.k.a. M/V Becks was sunk on October 22, 1996 in 85 feet of water where she sits upright with her bow to the South. Originally named the M/V Becks, this 167 foot long Dutch freighter was renamed the Captain Tony in memory of Captain Tony Townsend a local dive charter captain.
Today there is much to see on this wreck and there are numerous opportunities to penetrate the wreck with reasonable safety. Look for several large Jewfish that sometimes hangout in the engine room.
On a good day, with little current and decent visibility, you can follow the artificial reef rubble piles that connect the Captain Tony (85 fsw) and the Budweiser Bar (95 fsw).
When starting from the Captain Tony, leave the wreck from the bow on the port side (southeast corner) and follow the rock piles to the South while favoring a slightly eastward course to deeper water. The swim takes about 10 minutes and is best done on Nitrox EANx36 to get the bottom time you need to see both wrecks and make the return swim.
Formerly the USCG Nemesis and ex-Fort Lauderdale restaurant, the Ancient Mariner was sunk in June of 1991 in 70 feet of water.
When the Ancient Mariner was first sunk she looked more like a junk heap than a ship wreck. But hurricane Andrew fixed that by tearing off all the additions that had been made to convert the ship into a restaurant. Today, this 165 foot long ship again looks like the ship she was.
Because of the relatively shallow depth of this wreck there is plenty of time to see this wreck and explore some of the more accessible interior compartments.
The Captain Dan (originally named the Hollyhock), this 175 foot long ex-USCG buoy tender was sunk as an artificial reef on February 20, 1990. She now lies in 110 feet of water with her bow pointing North. With all the levels, passage ways, cabins, etc. this is one of the busiest wrecks in the area. See it once or see it many times --- it`s always a treat. With the deck at 65 feet and the sand at 110 feet you can do this dive on air if you wish, but you`ll get a lot more bottom time on Nitrox i.e 16 minutes on air and 29 minutes on EANx36.
