Ice Diving in Utah!
The very thought of an ice dive sends shivers down most diver`s spines. Still, every year we put together a group that heads out in to the cold and braves going under the ice.
On February 18, Dive Utah instructor Robert Jensen will lead our annual Ice Dive. The location will depend on the conditions of the ice at several of our local lakes. Strawberry Reservoir is the reliable stand by but Deer Creek and Jordanelle Reservoir are closer. Due to the higher elevation Strawberry always has ice where as Deer Creek and Jordanelle are closer to freeze over.
The group will meet at Dive Utah-Holladay the night before to go over details and techniques for this annual adventure dive.
Are You Becoming a Diver?
Ask any instructor out there and they can tell you that there is a difference between a person taking a certification class and a person becoming a diver. Taking a certification class is good, it`s like taking your first ski lesson and learning the wedge or your first karate lesson and getting your yellow belt, it`s good but it`s only a start.
Location description: Dive Utah returns to Catalina Island!
Just 20 miles off the coast of Southern California lies Catalina Island. When you step off the boat, you feel like you are on a Mediterranean island, not 25 miles from Los Angeles. Small shops and restaurants line the waterfront and sailboats fill the harbor. You will get to dive the kelp forests off island where you may see seals and sea lions, sharks, eels, lobsters, garibaldi and enjoy diving in the kelp forests that abound in this area. Catalina is the perfect place to complete your Nitrox or Drysuit certifications, both of which can count toward your Master Scuba Diver rating.
We`ll meet at the Catalina Express terminal in Long Beach Friday morning and will be on the island by noon. After lunch, it`s off to the world famous Casino Point Marine Park for a few dives. Saturday, we`ll go out on the King Neptune for a 3-tank day of diving. Sunday, we pack up and head home.
Dive Utah dives Fiji!
Fiji, the name alone is enough to bring to mind palm trees swaying, beautiful beaches, and some of the best diving on the planet. Join Dive Utah on the tropical island of Kadavu as we stay at the Matana Resort and dive with Dive Kadavu.
The Matana Resort offers accommodations for just 24 guests in 10 bures (traditional Fijian bungalows) located just steps from the beach. Did we mention the beach was voted in Travel Magazine as the #1 Most Beautiful Beach in the World?!
Fiji is famous for its soft corals and over 30 dive sites are just a 5-10 minute boat ride away. Most of these are virgin sites since this area is new to resorts and still being explored. Experience the sea fans on the Great Yellow Wall or give new meaning to swim throughs at Crazy Mazey. We will be offering Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver and many specialties while in Fiji, all steps in becoming a Master Scuba Diver.
Dive Utah`s annual Horizon trip!
California`s Channel Islands have long been a Utah diver`s playground. With reasonable airfare available, it is an easy getaway for a weekend or more of great diving. If you want the most diving possible, then join Dive Utah for a live-aboard trip on the Horizon.
The Horizon is an 85` boat based in San Diego. You will be diving around San Clemente, Catalina or Santa Barbara Islands and the kelp forests off the coast of Southern California. Apart from that, you may see seals and sea lions, sharks, eels, lobsters, garibaldi and enjoy diving in the kelp forests that abound in this area. Our Horizon trip is the perfect place to complete your Nitrox or Drysuit certifications, both of which can count toward your Master Scuba Diver rating.
