Company description Diversions Scuba began in 1994 in Tamara Thomsen`s apartment. Scuba lessons were taught with the concept of teaching around the student`s schedules and in smaller groups. Various courses offered by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) were taught virtually every night. By 1995, the operation had expanded to occupy Tami`s entire apartment, basement, and one bay of Dan O`Malley`s Sun Prairie business, O`Malley Electric. In 1996 we opened a retail shop on University Avenue, and after 9 years there, moved to our current retail retail location at 2409 Allen Blvd in Middleton. The dream of opening Southern Wisconsin`s first complete Recreational and Technical Dive Facility was then afloat with the addition of the courses from Technical Diving International (TDI).
Tami`s love and knowledge of cave, wreck, mixed gas, and rebreather diving make Diversions Scuba a good home for the extended range adventurer. In addition to air fills, Nitrox, Trimix, and Argon fills also became readily available. The facility grew again in 1999 to become Madison`s first PREMIERE PADI 5-STAR IDC TRAINING FACILITY and TDI Training Facility. Diversions Scuba has also been honored with three achievement awards from PADI for Excellence in Education, Community Involvement, and the Environment and has received recognition from the Dane County Board of Supervisors for our community activities. The shop currently sells a number of the scuba diving`s finest quality equipment and continues to offer small classes with flexible training schedules.
In addition to those things listed above, we feel Diversions Scuba has the most qualified and comprehensive recreational and technical dive training programs and the most experienced dive staff in Madison to back it. Our instruction staff consists of avid divers, not just professional divers. We have experience beyond all others in the realm of recreational diving as well as technical and mixed gas diving. You can also be confident that your equipment is being handled by our expert and certified service department. Our compressed air is tested quarterly, ensuring that you receive high-quality scuba diving air. And finally, our friendly and knowledgeable sales staff is always available to assist you in making informed scuba equipment purchases.

Location description: Surprisingly enough, there are a number of places todive around Madison.Lake Mendota and Lake Monona provide beautiful visibility in the spring and fall (and in the winter if you have the training and can take the cold temperatures). In mid-summer, most of our diving is in Devil`s Lake in Baraboo or Kiwanis Pond in Janesville. These diving spots provide plenty of fish including Walleye, Northern Pike, Muskie, Perch, Bass, Crappies, and, if you are lucky you may even spot a Sturgeon! Or for your adventurous side, there is always Great Lake wreck diving! We have trips to may popular wrecks that we schedule regularly.

Our Staff:
At Diversions Scuba, we believe we have the most experienced dive staff in Madison and the surrounding area. Here we offer you a small insight into who we are and some information on our backgrounds. Take a moment and meet our staff.
Tami Thomsen, Owner
Tami is a PADI Master Instructor, DAN O2 Instructor, Emergency First Responder Instructor, and teaches up through TDI Advanced Trimix and IANTD Full Cave. She is Full Cave and Trimix certified and is one of the primary divers on the Piquette Mine Project. If you don`t find Tami at Diversions Scuba, she is more than likely out diving somewhere.
Vicki Magiera , Manager/Instructor and Charlie, Shop security
Vicki is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, SDI Instructor and Medic First Aid Instructor. Vicki has been managing Diversions since 2000 and enjoys junk collection in the local lakes in her free time.
Charlie joined the staff in 2001 and puts in a full day napping and eating treats. However he always has time to greet you at the door with his friendly hello. *Charlie is not yet certified to dive.
Craig Carlson, Instructor
Craig is a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Medic First Aid Instructor, and TDI Nitrox Instructor. Craig is a Full Cave Diver and Advanced Trimix certified. Craig instructs many of the Open Water Certification dives as well as the Advanced level courses. Beginning in the spring of 2003 he will be offering the new SDI Solo Diver Course. Craig does most of the regulator repair work as well as maintenance and repair work at the shop. In real life Craig is a machinist for Mad City Manufacturing.
