Company description The Illinois Institute of Diving is Chicagoland`s oldest Scuba Center and is both an Institute and Retail Scuba center. As an Institute, IID continues to offer quality Scuba instruction for all levels of interest and expertise. Both at our classroom or at home over the internet. We incorporate learning and fun in every class. Our educational offerings range from Basic Scuba lessons to Scuba Instructor. We also provide a number of specialty courses such as our Shipwreck Survey & Penetration and Equipment Care classes. In addition, we offer technical training classes.
As a Retail Scuba Center, IID features quality scuba equipment from the most respected manufacturers in the industry: Scubapro, Tusa, Aeris, Dive Rite, Atlan. We supply a range of gases including air, nitrox, argon, and specialty tri-mixes. As the longest operating Scuba Center in Chicagoland, we have been providing quality service and repair for your gear, and expert counsel for all of your Scuba related questions for over 40 years. IID has available 90 days same as cash or revolving credit available (to customers with credit approved by American General Financial Services).
IID plans regular dive trips to remote and local locations featuring Florida, Cozumel, Curacao, the Cayman Islands, and Grand Turk. Our local diving includes the nearby quarries, weekly ship wreck excursions in the Great Lakes, and monthly BBQ/fun dives. Whether you are a prospective diver simply curious about the sport of scuba diving, or an avid technical diver ready to explore shipwrecks, caverns, and caves, The Illinois Institute of Diving has what you are looking for.

Who can learn to scuba dive?
Almost anyone 10 years old or older in average physical condition who is comfortable in the water. For recreational sport diving, it is more important to be comfortable in the water than to have marathon swimming skills.
What equipment is required?
You will need a mask, snorkel, fins and wet suit boots. All other equipment is supplied for your training sessions. We suggest you consult with us before you purchase these items so you are aware of the correct fit, form and function in order to make an educated purchase.
Becoming a SCUBA diver is as easy as 1, 2, 3...
1. Classroom lectures introduce you to the topics of diving physics, physiology, medicine, environment, and dive safety.
2. Pool sessions feature a low stress learning environment where you will practice diving skills, learn your personal limitations and the behavior needed to function enjoyably and safely as a diver.
3. Following successful completion of your classroom and pool sessions, you can complete your training dives either locally or at one of our vacation destinations.
We have classes starting every other weekend all year long!
Or we can set up private classes to fit your busy schedule!
Plus you can do your classroom over the internet if you chose to!

Join The Illinois Institute of Diving at Bonne Terre Mine: 4 Mine Dives, and 2 Nights stay at The Depot (located at the Mine) for only $410.00 Per Diver based on Dbl. Occ.
This unique adventure, can be your ``Dive to the Center of the Earth.`` Bonne Terre Mine, a national historic site, is the world`s largest fresh water dive resort. Water conditions remain constant year round with over 100 foot visibility. Sights include: mammoth architecture, cal falls, oar carts, scaffolding, grating, staircases, pillars, slurry pipes, the famed elevator shaft, and much more. Bonne Terre Mine is without a doubt one of the most unusual, beautiful, and relaxing full service dive resorts anywhere. Your accommodations located in the rolling foot hills of the Ozark mountains are elegant at the nearby 1909 Depot, or if you prefer a more casual atmosphere, the Divers Lodge, located at the Mine.
The Billion Gallon Lake is illuminated with over 500,000 watts of lighting, a total of twenty-four dive trails have been laid out in the lake, taking the diver through mammoth archways, past beautiful calcium falls, around gargantuan pillars and to the man Depths of the dive tours average between 40 to 60 feet. Divers are toured through the mine in groups, of up to, ten by two specially trained dive guides. Super 80 cubic ft. aluminum tanks are provided each diver. Dive lights are not permitted in the lake, because they detract from the natural beauty of the illuminated surroundings. Power inflator are required on all BC`s. The Billion Gallon Lake is 58 (Degree F) and not affected by outside temperatures, there are no thermoclines. Air temperature is 62 (Degree F) year round. Lighting on the rock formations is spectacular. One can descend to 80 feet and look up to see divers silhouetted against a rainbow. Man carved pillars grace the entire Billion Gallon Lake. The 200 foot solid-rock pillar rising from depths and mining artifacts on the walls and floor make for spectacular underwater photography.
Because of the wide range of dive trails offered at Bonne Terre Mine this trip offers something for all experience levels. From newly certified divers through to advanced technical dives can find Bonne Terre exciting and challenging.
