Company description Jack’s Dive Center, Inc., has been serving the needs of divers since 1975. We are the oldest and most experienced Master Scuba Training Facility in Connecticut. Jack received the SSI Platinum Pro 5000 award in 1994, the most prestigious award offered by the diving industry, in recognition of his work in the area of dive training, equipment testing, diving experience (over 8000 dives to date), and community service.
Because of our experience in the area of dive equipment, we have been chosen by most all of the top line equipment manufacturers as direct distributors, enabling us to offer our customers the finest life support equipment available, at the lowest possible prices.
Our Diver Training programs are second to none, offering low student to instructor ratios and very personalized attention. We provide all levels of training from beginner to advanced, and beyond.
Dive travel has always been very important to us. Jack was the first person to take divers from New England to the Cayman Islands, over 30 years ago. He has made 76 trips to Grand Cayman alone, and can lead you to his secret dive locations, known only to himself and his group, but not to the local Divemasters, assuring you pristine reefs and mind blowing diving. Our travel itinerary covers the Bahamas, Caribbean, South Pacific, and local waters. We are also a wholesaler for the famous Peter Hughes Diving, offering the finest in live-aboard diving experiences. Please note that many of our trips fill up over a year in advance, if you are interested in a trip please call now! All of our trips include airfare, but if you don’t live in our area airfare can be arranged from an airport convenient to you at very competitive rates. We have 30 years of experience in dive travel, nobody does it better than jack’s.
Our service department has won the Excellence in Service and Repair Award 3 years in a row at the Diving Equipment Marketing Association annual show. We can handle all your maintenance needs professionally and in a timely manner.
Underwater Photography is our specialty. We offer the full line of housing systems. All purchasers of camera systems receive our photography course at no charge. Call Jack for details.
Location description: Explore The Walls, Reefs, and Wrecks of Cayman Brac with Jack & Karen. Our primary reason for revisiting the Brac is the diving! Since the Caymans are sitting alone in the middle of the Caribbean, not near any major land mass, and are surrounded by incredibly deep water, the visibility is unparalleled in my opinion. The nature of the shear walls makes for breathtaking diving, rivaled only by the South Pacific. We are spoiled for choice when it comes to incredible dive spots on the Brac, and weather permitting we will also visit the awesome Bloody Bay Wall of Little Cayman. Bloody Bay Wall in Little Cayman has a drop off that starts in 18 feet of water, and drops vertically to over 1,000 feet, a completely unique experience in the Caribbean. The sheerness of the wall enables even shallow divers to experience the thrill of a true wall dive, with plenty of bottom time to boot. Deep water corals and sponges abound on this dive as do tropical and larger schooling ocean fish.
Tarpon Reef off the south side of the Brac is known for its schooling tarpon, an ideal spot to study these huge game fish. Also in this area are examples of Pillar Coral, very rarely seen in the Caymans and a wonderful photo opportunity for the underwater photographers among us.
East Chute/Cayman Mariner dive, offers a large sand filled canyon which forms a sand chute over the wall into the abyss. The area is known for its red rope sponges, yellow tube sponges, and barrel sponges. Towards the shore you will come to the Cayman Mariner wreck, sitting upright in 55 feet of water, known for its schooling barracuda, turtles, and green moray eels.
The Solomon`s is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. A highly volcanic area at the intersection of the Oceanic and Indo Australasian tectonic plates. The vigorous pressing together of the plates causes constant seismic activity, including earthquakes and volcanoes, but much less frequently here than in New Guinea or Vanuatu. Now on to our real reason for visiting the Solomon`s, the diving. Several people have asked me, ``Why the Solomon Islands?`` In a nut shell it`s because more species of marine life live here than anywhere else in the world! Over 2000 species of fish alone, and many of them remain unclassified, and unrecorded. How about the chance of coming back with the ONLY picture in existence of a new species of fish, or other marine life. There is so much here that is yet unknown, and just waiting to be discovered. The bottom structure varies widely, from sea fans almost 20 feet across, colorful soft corals, and perhaps the most pristine hard corals left in the world.
