Location description: Don`t think of Hawaii`s Big Island as merely an island. Think of it as an oasis of diversity. Variation abounds here - our island has over 40 ethnic cultures, ranges over 21 climate zones, and spans over 4,000 square miles. But let`s not talk about the land, because the ocean is calling and underwater is where we will take you.
Discover exotic endemic species which inhabit our vast finger coral gardens. Feel the huge volcanic lava fingers jut out from land and taper into distant points. Find inspiration by looking out into the warm, clear water from a lava tube. These are just a few of the Big Island`s aspects, come see for yourself!
Let us guide you in this tranquil world for an unforgettable experience.
Dive Sites:
*Crystal Cove inside
Depth: 25-45 feet. Black sandy bottom with isolated coral mounds home to turkey fish, eels, shrimp ect. Lots of macro life. Fringing coral reef and huge variety of fish. A great beginner dive. Excellent snorkeling!
*Crystal cove outside
Depth: 40-80 feet. Tall coral pinnacles. Search for our two resident frog fish (Kermit and Johnny). Garden eels in the deeper part. Rubble patches with octopus and eels. Dolphins often frequent this cove.
*The Lava Dome
Depth: 40-90 feet. Features a large plate coral formation shaped like a dome. Breathtaking coral valleys, and ledges. Good variety of sea life in shallow for beginners. For advanced divers the wall called pink Floyd jets out towards the open ocean and is loaded with schooling and bigger fish. Often spotted are sharks and rays, occasionally dolphins too.
*Frog Rock
Depth: 35-70 feet. Lava carved ledges below the boat lead to intricate open swim thru`s. Small white tip reef sharks often rest inside as well as invertebrate life such as lobsters, nudibranchs and hermit crabs. 60- 70foot area has loads of rubble where octopus and helmet shells ect. are found.
*Big Sandy`s
Depth: 15-65 feet. Shallow white sand patches make this a great first dive! Protected from current and wind also makes it great for snorkeling. Fish life is varied and resembles swimming in an aquarium. For the advanced divers in the group a ledge leads out and over looks the clear blue. Pyramid butterfly`s school here and rays are often seen.
*Horseshoe caves
30-60 feet. A large cavern structure forms a horseshoe shaped ledge. Endless coral covers the lava formations. Fish life is spectacular in shallow especially and ``kitchen sink`` is not to be missed for those who like swim thru`s.
*Black point caves
40-65 feet. A few scattered caves and one large open swim thru as well as a shelf of coral with lots of fish variety. 60- 70 feet tapers off into finger coal and scattered rubble areas.
*Pyramid point
50-95 feet. Home of the pyramid butterfly fishes. Hundreds of them often school in the upper water column. A spectacular advanced dive sight! Deep coral pinnacles with shifting currents common. Large animals often cruise thru such as Tuna rays, and hammerheads.
