ENTRY LEVEL SCUBA OPEN WATER COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
PHASE I - ACADEMICS and POOL
This is the classroom and pool instruction. The above registration fee covers the tanks, BC., weight belts, regulator, pool cost and instruction.
PHASE II - TRAINING DIVES
Open water training dives are required for SCUBA Training certification. These dives are not included in the fee. At the completion of this class you will be prepared for your Open Water Training Dives. You may choose to take those dives with Midwest SCUBA Center, or we will issue you a referral allowing you to be certified by another training facility. These dives are not included in the fee.
EQUIPMENT:
Bathing suit, towel and lock for your locker.
Masks, fins and snorkel are needed by the second class. If you have your own equipment, please bring it to the first class for evaluation.
Full wet suits are included in the training fee. Each student will need to be fitted. This must be done at Midwest SCUBA and normally takes 5-10 minutes prior to the first class.
CERTIFICATION:
PADI Basic SCUBA Diver certification or PADI Open Water Diver certification
PADI Basic SCUBA Diver certification requires only 2 training dives however this card has restrictions (depth limit 40 feet and you must always dive with a dive professional). Alternatively, PADI Open Water Diver certification requires four training dives (we highly recommend this rating).
The first class is an intro to the PADI program. We will also take a step-by-step look at masks, fins, and snorkels to help you select the proper equipment.
The first phase is taught in a three-week format on Saturday and Sunday. Training dives are usually done on a Saturday and Sunday following your last class.
All SCUBA equipment that is assigned to you must be washed and put away after each session. Abuse of equipment will result in dismissal from the course with no refund.
Location description: The classroom portion of the class is held at Midwest SCUBA Center. Pool information such as location and directions will be released at our first session.
Training dives are done at Kankakee Quarry and/or Kickapoo State Park, Danville, II. There is a fee for diving at Kankakee. Transportation to the training site is the student responsibility. We suggest car-pooling.
Every Advanced Open Water course doubles as a dive trip for other divers.
Normal drive time averages 1 1/2 hours to each of the dive sites. Once we have arrived you will have 5 hours in which to do your dives. For those of you who might be a little rusty, our staff will be glad to team up with you on your dives.
Cost: Depends on what is needed. Rent what you need or a complete package! Call for price.
Transportation: We suggest car-pooling
Entry Fee: Each dive site has an entry fee $10-20
Dates are subject to change depending upon demand.
Departure and arrival times vary depending upon distance from Champaign to the dive site. Call for exact times.
