-Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries
As a recreational diver, you can receive training to provide vital first aid that can make a difference to a scuba diver with decompression illness. The DAN Oxygen Provider Course provides entry-level training in the recognition and management of possible diving-related injuries using emergency oxygen first aid.
-Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2)
The DAN Remote Emergency Medical Oxygen (REMO2) system module supplements the DAN Oxygen First Aid in Scuba Diving Injuries course. Based on medical closed-circuit oxygen rebreather technology, the REMO2 device provides injured divers with high concentrations of emergency oxygen for extended periods. This training course instructs the Oxygen Provider in the use of DAN`s new REMO2 system.
-Oxygen First Aid for Aquatic Emergencies
This course trains non-divers and professional rescuers (such as lifeguards) to recognize near-drowning and other aquatic medical emergencies and to provide basic life support including the use of oxygen first aid.
-First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries
Serious hazardous marine life injuries are rare, but most divers experience minor discomfort from unintentional encounters with fire coral, jellyfish and other marine creatures. This course teaches divers to minimize these injuries and reduce diver discomfort and pain.
-Continuing Medical Education (CME)
To improve the quality and availability of care to the diving community worldwide, DAN encourages all physicians and healthcare providers to attend these courses in order to obtain the latest information and treatment methods available while enjoying some of the best dive locations in the world.
Location description: Southern Nevada is home to one of the largest inland diving communities in the United States. Lake Mead, with over 500 miles of coastline, provide near endless possibilities to the sport diver. When visiting Southern Nevada, please join us as we open your eyes and your mind to our corner of the underwater world.
* A desert may seem an unlikely place to seek underwater adventure, yet about ten thousand Southern Nevadans have been certified as divers. Many of those took their first open-water dive in Lake Mead, the second-largest man-made body of water in the world. Although divers who frequent the recreation area`s twenty-some submerged locations have raised some safety concerns, Lake Mead remains a fascinating destination.
*The SCUBA park at Lake Mead is as good a place as any to start if you`re venturing out there for the first time. The SCUBA park is located just to the right of Lake Mead Marina, and is protected from boat traffic. The SCUBA park offers 7 buoyed marked underwater sites from a 36` sailboat in about 90` of water to a cement tube, and truck cab.
*The Cement Factory is an ominous site for the more experienced diver. Used in the building of Hoover Dam, the cement plant now is covered by 40`-60` of water. A massive structure of 100` in diameter and walls of 12` much of the plant is still intact.
*The Tortuga is 45` cruiser sits in about 55` of water marked by a yellow buoy in the Boulder Islands dive park. The diver lucky enough to see this wreck can easily penetrate the hull for closer inspections.
*There is a plethora of dive sites in Lake Mead not even mentioned here. In the coming months Nevada-Scuba.com will be developing an interactive FLASH map you can use to virtually tour, get directions for and go to the dive sites to assist you in taking advantage of our wonderful backyard water park we call Lake Mead.
