Company description Recreational diving is meant to be safe, fun and rewarding.
Providing you with the right training, gear, and dive locations is our part in making your dive experience what it was meant to be.``
John Shimkoski was born in South Florida and settled here in Orlando, where his wife Heidi was born, after spending over 25 years in the US Army. John learned to dive in the late 1960s while on a summer vacation to Freeport, Grand Bahamas. In 1976, he took a formal PADI training certification course. John was trained as a US Army Special Forces combat diver in 1979 and continued to expand his diving knowledge by becoming a diving supervisor, diving medical technician and diving instructor in the US Army Special Forces diving community. He also instructed scuba diving for the YMCA and currently is a NAUI instructor trainer.
Scuba World’s roots in this community go all the way back to the days when sporting good stores were the only place to find swim and scuba (self contained underwater breathing apparatus) equipment. Ed Peasley was the owner of Edgewood Sports Center (later Jim Hollis´ Scuba World) located at Winter Park Road and Corrine Drive here in Orlando. Ed was one of the first businessmen to cater to the new sport of scuba diving in the 1950s and
Location description: Our Dive Sites
The Atlantic reefs from Jupiter through Stuart are generally continuations of the rock ledges that parallel the West Palm coastline. Reefs following the contour of the land are abandoned by the Gulf Stream`s clear water as it continues its northerly flow. Murky outflow from the rivers and water periodically released from Lake Okeechobee also limit visibility. Summer diving is considered best. Then, calm and clearer waters usually prevail. Diving during winter months is more demanding but offers a greater variety of fish and more lobster. Because they are dived less, the rock reefs of the area are not as easily identified as those to the south. They are, however, quite large and extensive, sometimes running continuously for miles.
Palm Beach diving presents you with the most marine life you can find on any reef system, anywhere in the world. In Palm Beach, diving is performed from boats and drift diving is chosen over anchor diving because of the currents. The waters of the Gulf Stream come closer to land at Palm Beach then anywhere else in the United States, making the most diverse marine life ecosystem.
On your dive you can expect to see large schools of fish, turtles, eels, and stingrays. It is not uncommon to have 50 to 70 feet of visibility, and the water is warm varying from 72∞F in winter to 85∞F in the summer months. You may see Florida Spiny Lobsters, which are delicious eating when they are in season. You may have the opportunity to swim next to a Great Southern Ray or to touch a nurse shark as it rests on the bottom.
Boynton Beach has some of the finest diving in North America. On an average day, the warm waters of the gulf stream flow just a mile or two off the Boynton Beach shore, producing warm and clear diving conditions that rival any found in the Caribbean. The warm, tropical waters are teeming with marine life including Corals, Morays, Sharks, Great Barracuda, Sea Turtles and shoals of colorful fish. There are 3 reef systems that lie just a few hundred yards off shore. The Sinking of the 175 foot M/V Becks...Boynton Beach`s latest dive attraction!
The ever-present North flowing current keeps the corals clean and vibrant. Like Cozumel, Boynton Beach is a drift diver`s paradise. The trip to the dive sites, usually less than 15 minutes, is just barely long enough to suit up. Our boats drop their divers over the reef in small groups, each with a dive flag and float. The boats follow the flags until the divers reappear. The small group approach allows computer divers, photographers, hunters and bug (lobster) catchers to ``do their own thing.`` The Budweiser Bar, a 167 foot long upright wreck lying at 93 feet provides an exciting alternative to the relaxed drift diving over the reefs.
Key Largo is quite possibly the single greatest dive site in world. The reefs are extraordinary with coral and sea life in variety and abundance. A number of wrecks a located near making diving interesting and historic
