Recreational Classes
Open Water Diver
At SeaSports, we encourage independent study for knowledge development before class begins. You will watch a video or DVD, read your PADI Open Water Manual, and complete all knowledge reviews in the manual before you get to class. When class meets, we will go over any questions you have and spend the time needed to ensure that all of your questions are answered.
Then, it`s off to the pool! After all, no one EVER learns to dive sitting in a classroom. First we will do our 300-yard mask, fin, and snorkel swim and then do a 10-minute float. Next we will start our confined water sessions. When we have completed our 5 sessions you will be able to remove and clear a mask underwater, hover in midwater and feel comfortable with all the other skills you will need on the open water certification dives.
Finally, you`re off to open water. This is where you demonstrate to your instructor that you are ready to be a diver. You must complete 4 dives over two days in order to complete your certification. You demonstrate the skills you have learned in confined water during these dives and have a whole lot of fun while you`re doing it. The result - a PADI Open Water Diver certification card, recognized worldwide.
Advanced Open Water Diver
Ready for even more fun and experience? Then the Advanced Certification is waiting for you. These classes focus on improving your dive skills; therefore, most of the time is spent in the water.
Of course, you need to learn a few things ahead of time. You will receive the PADI Adventures in Diving manual. Read the whole thing if you want - or, just the modules for the 5 dives you will be doing. Complete the knowledge reviews and spend one evening with our instructors reviewing information and planning your dives.
EFR – Emergency First Response
Just like our other classes, you start with independent study with the EFR student manual and video. Our class time is spent learning rescue breathing, CPR, AED usage, giving aid to a choking adult, shock management, and how to control serious bleeding. You will also learn injury and illness assessments and how to splint for dislocations and fractures.
Rescue Diver
This class is the most serious fun you will ever have! As a PADI Rescue Diver, you`ll have the knowledge and skills needed to handle a variety of situations in diving. This class has two components: Knowledge Development and Open Water Skills.
Master Scuba Diver
In order to reach this rating, you will need to meet the following qualifications:
Show proof of 50 logged dives
Be both an Advanced and Rescue diver
Hold 5 PADI Specialty ratings.
At SeaSports, we can help you reach this pinnacle with instruction in 18 different specialty courses.

Our Panama City trip runs Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. Divers generally leave Atlanta after work or school on Friday and check into the hotel in the evening. The site offers 20 different species of fresh water fish – see how many you can find!! We arrange a group meal for anyone who wants to join in on Saturday evening.
It’s usually early to bed since the boats take off at 7am Sunday morning. We use Panama City Dive Center – PCDC- as our supplier of boat trips. They have a truly helpful and friendly staff that bends over backwards to make your trip as enjoyable as possible. If weather in the gulf is bad, we’ll head back to Vortex to complete our certification dives.
