Company description
Waterfront Diving Center was established in 1988. Our Goal has always been to provide the customer with the highest quality possible in everything we do. Quality in the brands of gear that we sell. Quality in the service we provide after the sale. Quality in the adventure opportunities that we offer locally, to the Caribbean, and beyond. We are particularly proud of the wide variety of professional diving instruction programs that we offer to the public.
Diving will open up an entire new world to you. It is an incredible journey, like nothing else on earth. Whether it`s diving into history on one of Vermont`s Underwater Preserve shipwrecks, or diving the most exotic destinations on earth, trust the experienced professionals of Waterfront Diving Center to lead you safely through the world of diving.
This is your starting point to discovering the wonders of the underwater world. This certification is your passport to SCUBA diving, and to enjoying the thrills of weightlessness underwater; to exploring the beauty of an underwater tropical paradise; or to exploring the sunken shipwrecks of the Vermont Underwater Historic Preserve. The SCUBA DIVER certification enables you to buy or rent equipment, to go on dive charters, or to participate in any SCUBA activity. The minimum age for this class is 12 years. The cost of the class is $295 and includes a text book, decompression tables, dive log book and the use of all the equipment throughout the class, with the exception of mask, fins, and snorkel. We do offer our students a 10% discount off these items if they need to be purchased. We offer many different scheduling options for this course.
Special Note - If you are planning a tropical vacation this winter and would like to dive, but are not yet certified, take the classroom and pool work with us and complete your open water dives at your destination. We will assist you in finding an instructor to complete your dives. If you choose this option to get certified, the cost of the course is $50 less, or $245.00. The cost of the open water dives will vary depending upon the location and instructor.
Many people have said to us, ``ever since I was a kid I have wanted to try SCUBA``, well now you can! The Try SCUBA event includes a brief orientation to the equipment followed by a dive in a shallow pool. The minimum age is 12 years. This winter we are conducting several Try SCUBAs in conjunction with local health and fitness clubs. Contact us for registration information.
What the heck is Nitrox anyway? Many people assume that nitrox is a deep diving gas for professional divers only. Many assume that it takes months of extensive training to use Nitrox safely, and that it involves a lot of expensive specialty equipment. All of these assumptions are incorrect. Nitrox is primarily used in shallower depths above 130 feet and it has been used by thousands of recreational divers for almost 15 years. In most applications the equipment can be standard SCUBA equipment without modification. Nitrox is basically air with a higher percentage of oxygen and lower percentage of nitrogen. Thus when you use Nitrox you have less nitrogen in your tissues and your decompression exposure is reduced. You can stay down longer, and with a much greater safety margin than with standard air. Another benefit of Nitrox is a reduced level of fatigue after dives. Because of the higher partial pressure of oxygen in Nitrox, most divers report having much more energy after a Nitrox dive. Our upcoming Nitrox classes involve five to six hours of classroom theory, but no dives are required. This enables us to teach Nitrox during the winter months, which makes great sense. Almost all live-aboard dive vessels and most popular tropical dive destinations offer nitrox to their clients. Most dive vacations involve multiple days of repetitive dives. This type of diving activity poses the greatest risk of decompression sickness and nitrox minimizes this risk.
