Company description York Divers is a PADI scuba diving center. We sell scuba equipment, teach scuba classes, and run dive trips from the Atlantic ocean to the warm waters of the Bahamas.
York Divers was acquired by James and Linda Grim in May of 1988. We are the third owners of this PADI scuba diving center.
York Divers currently has 10 instructors and 15 divemasters to train people how to dive safely. We offer classes for the beginner as well as the experienced diver. York Divers has classes year round from basic open water beginner classes up to the divemaster rating. We also teach many specialties such as: night, deep, wreck, navigation, photo, enriched air (nitrox), marine awareness, boat, equipment, and drysuit.
York Divers is a full service dive center. We teach classes, sell equipment and accessories needed for the sport, service most of the equipment that we sell (bcd`s, regulators, lights), arrange trips, offer airfills, visual inspections of cylinders and valves, and arrange social events for the divers.
Welcome to the sport of scuba diving
OPEN WATER CERTIFICATION - THE FIRST STEP
The confined pool water training sessions are done in a warm indoor pool. Each student is to bring a swimsuit (girls - one piece only) and towel to each session. Be sure to have your own mask, snorkel, fins and boots. All other equipment needed for the class is provided by York Divers.
All students are required to have their own texbook with dive tables for the course. The textbook must be the latest edition and is included in the cost of our course.
All students are required to have proper mask, snorkel, fins and boots for the pool and open water sessions. This equipment is available at York Divers and can be purchased when registering for the class. These items are properly fitted for you by our staff. There is a 10% discount given to the new student on the purchase of their mask, snorkel, fins and boots.
Cost of the 5 WEEK pool/class training sessions is $199.00. This includes the book, logbook pages, dive tables/instruction book and all equipment needed for the pool sessions - not including mask, snorkel, fins and boots. DVD needed for the class is $25.00.
Following the 5 weeks of training you will be required to do 4 dives. These are called open water dives. The cost of all 4 dives is $160.00. This price includes all the equipment you will need for the 4 dives (BCD, Tank, Reg, Wetsuit, Air, Weights). These 4 dives are done over a two day period, usually a weekend.
We start certifying locally in May. If you do a class during Jan/Feb/Mar we will have you back for a refresher pool session prior to doing your certification dives.
You may also get certified on a trip, like one of our Caribbean trips over the winter/spring or late fall.
You will be given dates at the beginning of your class of trips and local certifications dives. Sign up early.
NOT INCLUDED: trip costs, log books, entrance fees, meals, drinks.
If you wish to be certified earlier than May or anytime in a drysuit you may do so. We will train you in the use of a drysuit. There is an additional pool session required. Additional cost of the certification dives is $50.00 per person for the use of the drysuit. This is NOT a drysuit certification. These are certification dives using a drysuit for warmth. There are limited number of drysuits, so this is a first come basis.
