Company description The Aqua Amigos Scuba Club, a not-for-profit organization based at the Euclid YMCA, has been active since 1958 and can offer you fun, adventure and tradition. Our main goal is to promote safety and continued education in diving, to our members, as well as to the general public. We have provided divers and their families the opportunity to pursue and share their mutual interest in the underwater realm. Our greatest resource is the fellowship that our members share. You never again need to be at a loss for a dive buddy, be it either novice or advanced, or even if you want to move up into more complex diving, we have the members to assist you in that endeavor. Each year we plan an extensive and vast schedule of both dives and social activities.
The dives are arranged as to cover all levels of diving, and give you the comfort level and experience that you want. Trips that we have included in our past range from: Lake Erie boat diving, Niagara River, Tobermory, Mexico, and the Caribbean. If it is not on the official club schedule does not mean that we may not be doing it. There are times that certain trips are not listed due to the complexity of the trip or difficulty of the diving. These trips are usually small in number and led by individual members as to ensure the safety of all divers involved. (Examples of such trips would be any including overhead environment, or where mixed gases or staged decompression may be needed).
The social activities are planned in order to allow the non-diving family members, or even the divers that need a bit of time away from the water, a way to get together and have fun. We have monthly dinners, parties and picnics, ski trips, canoe trips, just to name a few of the events that we offer. Once again, if you do not see it on the schedule, does not mean we do not do it, or will not add it if there is enough interest.
Other things that the club offers is a very extensive library of dive related materials that you can check out. A monthly newsletter will keep you up to date on events and activities that are happening within the club. Meetings are held every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 8:00pm (visitors are welcome) at the YMCA (631 Babbitt Road, Euclid, OH). We have instructors that conduct classes ranging from open-water, to your more advanced classes or teaching level certifications. We also offer other courses such as CPR, Marine-life accidents, etc. for those who may be interested. We are also a proud member of the Ohio Council of Skin and Scuba Divers. The OCSSDI is an organization of many different Scuba Diving Clubs within the state of Ohio, which provides a vehicle for a greater exchange of information within the diving community.
Our Scuba instructors conduct Open Water Diving classes at the Euclid Family YMCA each spring and summer. Classes are held on Tuesday evening at 6:30PM for 10 weeks per session. YMCA Open Water Certification is issued upon successful completion of all course requirements.
Courses in Advanced Diving, CPR, SCUBA Lifesaving and Accident Management are also offered. A new class will be starting soon, so call Bob Kelly at 216-481-0222 or page him at (216) 625-5000 to reserve your space!!!
The history of dive training in the United States began with the development of YMCA SCUBA Program. As divers and instructors, we have dedicated ourselves to the quest for ever better ways to teach others to enjoy the underwater world. That is our heritage. Throughout the history of sport diving, the YMCA has maintained unsurpassed standards. Those standards have changed as our knowledge and depth of experience have changed, so if you have been thinking of diving, contact us with your questions.
