Company description The Dive Club of Rhode Island (DCRI) is a not for profit organization with a member base of divers from Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Our purpose is to promote the sport of SCUBA diving within the community, to provide new divers the opportunity to learn from experienced divers, to provide all members additional opportunities to dive, and to increase the enjoyment of diving for all its members.
We do this by sponsoring regular dives (every weekend in April-Oct) at various sites in Rhode Island, by organizing trips to out-of-state locations, and by various non-dive activities held throughout the year.
From the journal of dives made by DCRI members (it includes DCRI Club dives and non-club dives made by club members):

It was an overcast morning with ``warm March`` winds parting my beard, and the anticipation of adventure on a wreck virgin to me. Sam P., Sue,Joe Romerio,Rob Rex,and myself slipped the dock on ``The Three Sons`` a 36` fishing boat with open transom....ie no dive ladder. Rob found the L8 (a retired American ww1 sub sunk by the navy in a magnetic detonation torpedo test..target practice) immediatly on the sonar screen but it took 2 hours to grapnal that beast(tough as hell to get a bite on a tube with round contours all around).Once we did Sam & Rob tied us in. When they surfaced it was Joe and me who splashed next. Decending on the anchor line to a depth of 100 feet in 39 degree water I could see a dark shape come into view through the long strands of algea bloom.Viz was about 10/12 feet. Our anchor was tied into a hatch at a depth of 112 feet at which point I tied my wreck reel to the anchor chain. I finned forward to where it was cut in half by a torpedo and made the jump to where the forward section was and checked it out....shweet wreck! I definatly want to dive her again.I kept my bottom time to a conservative 10 minutes when I retrieved the line from my reel and started my ascent,I stopped at 60 ft for 1 min., at 30 ft for 1 min., and did a 3 min. safty stop at 15 ft.total dive time was 22 minutes. It was worth all the work of hauling the 200 ft of anchor line up like 4 or 5 times although my hands were freezing from gripping the cold rope. (My hands were warm during the dive though with my 3 finger mitts)Many thanks to Sam Patterson and Rob Rex for the invite.

Lovely day for a dive! It was sunny, slight wind out of the west and not surprisingly, there were quite a few folks at Ft. Wetheril.
Dave H. had a new set of dry gloves to go along with his dry suit and wanted to check them out. Everyone was going in on the boat ramp side, so we took our time getting set up before doing the rocky beach side. The tide was way low and we were hoping to get clear vis since no-one had been in on that side.
Well, once we got into the water, we found the vis was less than 2 feet due to the surface chop. We ended up doing a surface swim out a 100 yards before going back down.
The rest of the dive was nice. No fish life at this time, but quite a few nice anemones, crabs, and lobster -- I even came out with 2 lobsters for dinner!
In our dry suits, the water was fine and we stayed warm until Dave`s new glove flooded. Total bottom time was over an hour. Really enjoyed the dive.

DCRI Frozen Fin Dive
DCRIs annual Frozen Fin Dive had quite a few brave souls turn out to take the plunge! Most of us were using our dry-suits... There were several intrepid souls (Ray O., Kim & Pete M.) who braved the frigid waters (42F) in their wet suits. The divers received moral support from our cheering section.
Location description: DCRI club meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00pm at various locations.
