Company description The Houston Underwater Club, Inc. (HUC) was formed in 1957 and in 1969 the Club was chartered as a non-profit corporation dedicated to furthering sport diving and activities relating to man’s involvement in the underwater environment. We are an active club with a diverse membership, bound together by common interests in the underwater world. Our interests have expanded from sport diving to underwater archaeology, underwater photography, ecology and marine biology. Diver education, training and safety are our primary concerns. Because people with common interests quickly become friends, we also have an active schedule of social get-togethers. Our activities are as diverse as our many interests:
• monthly meetings with educational and entertaining programs;
• SeaSpace®, with its international film festival, symposium, and academic scholarship program;
• diving in the Gulf at the Flower Gardens National Marine Sanctuary and on various Oil Rig Platforms;
• trips to the Caribbean and other parts of the world for superb diving;
• other activities related to man’s interest in the sea;
• local non-diving activities such as fossil collecting, camping, wine tasting, happy hours, etc.
Meetings are held at the Tracy Gee Community Center, 3599 Westcenter Drive (see map below) on the third Friday of each month, except for the month of December. Meetings are open to all and are informative, interesting and varied. Guests are always welcome. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for socializing and the program starts at 7:00 p.m. Meetings generally last until 9:00 p.m. After the meeting most of the members adjourn to a local Restaurant for dinner and camaraderie.
Check our Club Calendar for details of our monthly programs.
We try to schedule a variety of locations with a mixture of liveaboards and land-based resorts and at various times throughout the year. All trips are led by HUC Divemasters.
SEASPACE® is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation formed by the Houston Underwater Club
The Houston Underwater Club invites you to explore the world of scuba diving, adventure sports, and international travel - without even leaving Houston. For that exciting world is coming to the SEASPACE Exposition in Hall ``E`` at the Reliant Center, behind the Reliant Astrodome. Scheduled March 31 and April 1, 2007, SEASPACE draws exhibitors, speakers and attendees from exotic destinations around the globe. Stay tuned to the SEASPACE web site as plans are set for SEASPACE 2007!
SeaSpace is the Southwest USA`s premiere Adventure Exposition. With entertainment and education for the entire family, you are invited to explore more than 200 booths with experts on various outdoor sports and exotic travel destinations. In its new expanded location at the Reliant Arena, SEASPACE is adding more fun to the mix with exciting adventure sports like rock climbing, kayaking, and skydiving. A huge swimming pool in the Exhibit Hall enables visitors to bring a swimsuit and try out scuba diving, snorkeling, or kayaking.
The innovative Environmental Awareness Area will showcase groups like the Cousteau Society and the Flower Gardens National Marine Sanctuary. The Texas State Aquarium will bring the Ocean in Motion, a mobile trailer with live animals and interactive computer technology. As part of the ongoing SEASPACE Scholarship program, there will be a special presentation of the 2005 SEASPACE Environmental Award.
Children love SEASPACE! The highly creative Virtual Dive takes kids aged 5-12 on a simulated dive through a coral reef environment constructed of recycled materials. Virtual divers learn, have fun, and receive free gifts upon completing their tour. There are a host of other children`s activities that include prizes and surprises.
