Company description
The Innerspace Explorers Dive Club was created in the early 1960`s by local Divers, who themselves were new to the fledgling sport. Training generally came in the form of retired or former Navy `frogmen` and Public Safety officers, and interest developed from a strong desire to probe the ocean depths, or the bottom of a local pond, lake or quarry. The area rivers were an added area of discovery.
Today`s club member is interested in learning all there is to know about Diving, and as a result we have members who are: Instructors, Dive Masters, Rescue and Advanced, Cave and Cavern Enthusiasts, Wreck Divers, and Reef Divers, Spear-fishing Specialists, Nitrox and Mixed Gas Pros, Eco-Divers, and Live-aboard Advocates, Cold Water and Warm Water-only (Wimps) participants, Wet and Dry Suiters, Women and Men, Moms, Dads, Married and Single Persons, and Teenagers too. If you are a Certified or about to be Certified Dive, Open Water or above, you and your family are invited to join us. Our Club Members have a serious assortment of equipment , training and Dive tales. Each meeting starts with ``Who has been diving?``
All level of divers are welcome to join us. We plan our diving for the novice as well as the extreme. We do not pretend to be anything other the recreational divers. This is our hobby, not our jobs. We do have commercial divers as members, but this is the fun side of diving, to all of us.
Additionally, guests have shared their experiences in the identification and correct sizing of lobsters, and have invited our members to participate in the University of Rhode
Island`s tagging program. A biologist from the University of Massachusetts, at Amherst gave an outstanding lecture on the Connecticut River, and Diving on the many interesting features in its underwater terrain. The Club holds its annual picnic in June. The Club provides access to other community Divers and folks that aid us in our sport and diving endeavors. We have members that plan and travel to near and distant dive locations throught the world.
We offer frequent club dives during the spring and summer. There are dives for all levels from entry level to wreck dives @ 90+ FSW, in some cases it is FFW (Feet of Fresh Water). We offer diving for everyone as well as volunteer work with the Volunteer Frogmen & TASK-9 Search & Rescue Dog training.
Area Dive Shops provide Club members with discounts on equipment, lessons and (1 shop) issue a free ten fill air card per member each year. Whether it be a trip to the Ct. shore or a group trip on a charter boat for wreck diving,
The Club also provides a DAN O2 Safety Kit be available on any Club sponsored Dive trip, and encourages members to become certified DAN O2 oxygen administrators.
The Club sends out a monthly newsletter, and the annually elected Officers and Board members meet before -hand to map out the special events, guest speakers, slide and video presentations, and frequent participation in the meetings by area Dive Shops and Staff. Each new member is provided with a new Club T-shirt.
Come to a meeting and pick up a membership application . Membership applications will not be mailed. Members can place Want, For Sale or Trade ads for Dive related equipment.
