Company description The United Divers of New Hampshire are an independent dive club that is not affiliated with any single dive shop. UDNH believes that independence provides its members the benefit of no pressure or reservations concerning the practices of a single dive shop. However, UDNH does strive to work with all the local dive shops to promote diving in New Hampshire.
The United Divers of New Hampshire (UDNH) Dive Club was founded in 1975 to educate divers and expand the knowledge of diving in both the State of New Hampshire and in New England in general. The club also provides an informal setting for diver interaction.
The UDNH Mission
*Promote Safe Diving:
As a responsible dive club, UDNH
and all its members pledge to exercise and promote safe diving at all times. It is the mission of the club to raise the awareness of scuba diving safety for scuba divers as well as the general public.
*Promote Community Involvement:
As divers we need to ensure there are locations to dive. It is the responsibility of every diver and dive club to improve relations with those that control access to the water. UDNH is committed to strong community involvement and as such will work with organizations, public and private, to effect positive change.
*Promote Environmental Awareness:
Since scuba diving is fundamentally an exercise in experiencing the environment it is imperative that we work to preserve the environment especially the coastal environment. UDNH will make every effort to preserve the environment for everyone. It is the mission of UDNH to make a positive impact wherever
UDNH does sponsor a few dive events each year but you do not need to wait for a club-sponsored dive since there are always members looking for buddies to dive with. There is great diversity of diving interests within the club to meet the needs of everyone.
There are a few coordinated dive trips each year. Past trips included a dive live board in the Bahamas and Cenote diving in Mexico. If you want advice for dive travel there are quite a few members that travel frequently and are more than willing to offer their opinion concerning dive travel.
The club meetings are very interesting and informative. The club frequently invites guest speakers or club members deliver presentations on topics that are relevant to diving in New England.
Location description: Maine Dive Sites:
*Nubble Light
Nubble is probably one of the most well known dive sites in Maine or New Hampshire. Only twenty minutes from Portsmouth Nubble is very accessible for a morning dive. The diving at Nubble is very dependent on the weather. You will find good diving if the is little of no wind or if there is a light wind out of the south or west. You will find bad conditions if the wind is out of the northeast. One of the problems that you will notice is that there are a lot of divers here. This tends to murk up the water a bit but you can easily find your way away from the masses. There is a lot to see here but if you are going to make your way out of the protected cove be aware that there can be a heavy current on the back side of the island.
*Two Lights
This is a good entry level dive on a good day. Since this site is directly open to the ocean it is effected by the weather or ocean swells. In any case it is an easy entry even with moderate surf, Once in the water you will find 35-45 feet and rocks full of wildlife on either side of the beach. I have not ventured out of the little cove but I would imagine there is a current out there to be aware of.
New Hampshire Dive Sites:
*Nubanusit Lake
The bottom drops off suddenly to around 30-50 feet and you can head either direction along the shore for some interesting freshwater diving. Lots of big bass will follow you. Great beginner to intermediate diving. Perfect for checkout dives.
Mass Dive Sites:
*Cathedral Rocks
Depths are to 80 ft. with lots of marine life. Very nice place to hang out for an afternoon but again I stress, only in good weather..
