Company description
Bay Area Scuba is a full service facility offering scuba classes, scuba lessons, certifications, Scuba Rentals, Air Fills, Repairs and a full line of top quality Scuba Equipment.
We have been serving the San Francisco Bay Area since 1985. We are small but we offer the most personalized scuba diving train for anyone. Our lead instructor and owner of Burlingame Scuba Center , Scott Jackson - PADI Master Trainer / IDC Staff has been teaching scuba diving for more than 20 years.
Scott ran one of the largest diving operations on the island of Maui for ten years, and started this business from a two bedroom apartment in Burlingame in 1986. His best talent is calming the nervous at heart. Scott is real understanding, patient. He really has a good understanding of exactly what it takes by going not just the extra one, but two miles to get you where you need to be. His patience is wild to watch.
Our well trained scuba team are well trained and offer you one of the best experiences of your life. Our classes are small and each class have dive masters available. Because we have small and personalized classes, NO student will never be left out. We believe all of students can accomplish anything that they commit their hearts to.
If you have a rough schedule at work, we will do our best to accommodate you. If you have your own swimming pool, we will even come to you so that you can learn how to dive in the privacy of your own home. So, give us a call and we will do anything we can to get you breathing underwater in no time at all.
Diving is an exhilarating, pleasurable and highly rewarding activity which can only be enjoyed safely if you are trained to the appropriate level.
The first level of certification is called the PADI Open Water Diver. This is obtained by completing your Open Water Referral, which covers theory and practice in the safety of a swimming pool.
The second part is the Open Water Diver which includes 4 dives in open water. You can take your Open Water Referral certificate abroad on holiday as long as you complete your open water dives within 12 months.
If you are unsure if scuba diving is for you or if you would like to experience diving without committing to the full course then why not try our Discover Scuba experience.
If you wish to continue your training then please refer to the summary chart below which describes the various follow on courses. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact us.
Start your scuba lessons and you will have your scuba certification in 2 weeks.
If you`re a little rusty and would like to get some practice in before your next big trip or you`re re-discovering scuba, We also offer a refresher course that will get your skills back in shape. Also, despite the excellent open water diving opportunities available here in California, some divers prefer saving their diving experiences for warm, tropical locales. If you`re thinking about taking a trip and want to get most of the bookwork and pool sessions completed before you go. Bay Area Scuba can also conduct a referral course where you complete everything except your open water dives here so you can maximize your vacation enjoyment.
SDI Certification or PADI Certification Available
Under SDI, the properly equipped student will use a personal dive computer during all their in water, and certification dives.

Classes offered:
*Open Water Certification
Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by making four open water (ocean or lake) dives. How long will it take? Padi or SDI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you.
*Open Referral
The Padi or SDI Open Water Referral Course is designed for people who desire to complete the classroom & pool work done here at Bay Area Scuba Diving Center, and do their Padi or SDI Open Water Ocean Training dives at a tropical warm water resort. Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing four pool dives and knowledge development sessions.
*Scuba Refresher / Review
Scuba Review helps you tune up your diving skills without having to repeat the entire scuba course. It reacquaints you with diving so that you`re back to feeling comfortable in the underwater world in less than a day.
After completing the Scuba Review, your instructor will document in your logbook your participation in this program. This shows dive centers, resorts and dive boats that you have updated your skills. You will also gain renewed confidence to once again enjoy the fun and adventure that is unique to scuba diving.
Scuba Review includes a classroom session and pool review session with a Bay Area Scuba instructor. You will tune up important diving skills such as buoyancy, breath control, equipment assembly and breathing from an alternate air source.
*Adventure Diver
The Adventures in Diving program offers both the Adventure Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications. If you complete any three adventure dives, you can earn your Padi or SDI Adventure Diver certification. If you complete your Deep Adventure Dive, Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive and three Adventure Dives for a total of five, you can earn your Advanced Open Water Diver certification.
