Company description
Becoming a certified Scuba Diver at Bluewater Divers is now more convenient and fun than ever. Regardless of where you decide to take your Scuba Diving lesson all dive shops must teach by similar minimum standards. A PADI 5 Star facility such as ourselves will soon explain the difference between ``minimum standards`` and a PADI 5 Star facility standards. How much fun and confidence you have before, during and after your class depends on how much experience your trainer has, how friendly the dive shop is and if they are up front about how long class takes, what you are responsible for providing and how much the class costs. Make sure you ask for the TOTAL cost. When you are shopping around also keep in mind that this is life support training.
What equipment will you be using? At Bluewater Divers we believe that if you are not having fun you are not doing it right! That is why we are breaking down the old philosophy that rental equipment should be ratty, old economy gear that was new 10-15 years ago. We provide ONLY the finest state of the art Scuba Diving equipment so we know you are getting nothing but the best the first time you experience this wonderful sport. All of the staff and trainers here believe in being spoiled as well as spoiling our customers. We also remember years ago what it was like going through our initial training……the equipment that was provided will always be remembered and not in a pleasant way! All of our rental equipment at Bluewater Divers is serviced multiple times per year. After 2 seasons all rental equipment will be offered to the public for a $ steal and replaced with the latest and greatest equipment offered by top manufacturers.
What about different training agencies? Bluewater Divers is a PADI 5 Star facility. This is at the highest levels a dive shop can achieve. Any PADI facility especially a 5 Star facility and its instructors are held to standards and a level of training no other training agency or instructor has. So again, when comparing apples to apples this is why Bluewater may charge a few more bucks and not rush you through life support training. That should give you a measurable value to why! We often find ourselves talking with people that want to GET THIS DONE quick! We understand your time is very valuable. We find that those same people are asking for MORE TIME once they begin diving and see how much there is to learn and how much we have to offer them.
What other certification agencies can Bluewater Divers teach? PADI, SDI, YMCA and NASE. Again, you need to realize that ALL training agencies are good ones! They are all governed and comply with the regulations of the Recreational Scuba Training Council (RSTC). We can make statements like that because we can teach for ALL of the major training agencies. With all of our experienced staffs knowledge there is one agency that has stands out, PADI. PADI is ``the way the world learns to dive``. They are everywhere! Chances are if you have visited a tropical tourist area around the world you have seen the PADI logo. Any Dive magazine will show community involvement from PADI and most dive shops around the world support PADI as well. Just remember…..A good instructor will teach a great class regardless of the training agency they choose to teach and a less experienced or burned out instructor will not impress you regardless of the agency they choose to teach for.
Location description:
Lake Murray is about 1 1/2 hours from Bluewater Divers near Ardmore Oklahoma. Surface conditions in the summer get into the 80`s. Diving below the Thermocline can get into the 60`s in the summer. The bottom composition is very silty. On the weekends the more popular sites get very stirred up. Although access is a bit of a goat trail down to the water, diving at the old tower is the choice of most divers.
Broken Bow Oklahoma is just over 3 hours from Bluewater Divers. Although the lake gets very deep most of the good diving we have found is 40 foot and shallower where the temperature is in the 70`s for summer time. Surface temperature in the summer gets into the 80`s. Visibility is 10-25 ft. spring, summer and fall. It gets brutally cold below 50 ft. and visiblilty typically deteriorates. Air fills can be arranged at the Broken Bow Fire Department. Ask for Roger Ross. There is not much he does not know about that lake and surrounding areas. Great hunting as well! We`ll let Roger tell you all about that!
Lake Tenkiller is the divers choice coming from the Oklahoma City area for best overall diving. Although the lake can be a bit moody at times it is well worth the visit. Surface temperature in the summer can get into the 80`s. The good diving is going to be below the Thermocline where summer temperatures are in the 70`s. Tons of aquatic life as well as history. In the 1950`s Lake Tenkiller was just a river. Once dammed and flooded it has became one of Oklahomas best Scuba Diving and outdoor enthusiast getaways! We frequently dive on the remains of old school houses, farms, roads and bridges. The Bottom contour is primarily Sandstone so it does not get stirred up easily. Shore diving is great as well as remote boat dives. Depth can exceed 150 ft. Air fills are available at Gene`s. Air fills at Big Daddys are no longer available!
Elmer Thomas Lake is just over an hour from Bluewater Divers. This is a spectacular dive for an evening getaway or a late afternoon. Its a very small lake that can get crowed early on the weekends. Surrounded by mountains, the 20 ft. average visibility and abundant aquatic life has made this a favorite for many divers coming from OKC. Make sure you bring some bread to feed the eager school of Perch that will be following you the entire dive! If you forget bread there is an ample supply of muscles buried in the silt you can crack open. The Perch will know what to do from there. Most of the diving is shallow and summer temperatures are in the 80`s. If you want to dive a bit deeper the dam is the place to be. There is a heck of a Thermocline if you go deep. Maximum depth in-between the new and old dam is less than 100 ft. NO AIR FILLS AVAILABLE! Make sure you bring plenty of air with you!
