Keep all your scuba equipment in A-1 condition with Fantasea Scuba`s authorized repair facility! We are a factory authorized repair facility for Aqua-Lung, Cressi-Sub, SeaQuest, Oceanic, DUI, Dive-Rite, A.B. Biller, and Ocean Reef.
We stock a complete line of all replacement parts for quick service. All repairs are handled on a timely basis with satisfaction guaranteed.
Fantasea Scuba provides you with clean, oxygen compatible air fills. We stock a large quantity of 80 and 63 cubic foot aluminum tanks in our rental department. Nitrox fills up to 80% are custom blended by a certified TDI blending technician.
Fantasea Scuba`s rental department uses Aqua-Lung, SeaQuest, Dive-Rite and Oceanic BCD’S and regulators. Our rental regulators include an alternate air source, depth and air pressure gauge, along with a compass. We have a variety of regulators to try before making that big purchase to insure that you will be completely satisfied with your choice. Our rental department also carries a variety of wetsuits and accessories. Air and Nitrox tanks are also readily available.
Our Gulf Coast Diving is a great area for the active spearfisherman! Fantasea Scuba is an authorized A.B. Biller Dealer. We carry a complete variety of replacement parts, shafts, tips, bands, and accessories for all your spearfishing needs.
As you would expect, our water temperatures in summer are ``tropical`` (80`s). However, if you are visiting in the winter months, don`t leave that heavy suit at home as we commonly see the temperature drop into the 50`s (yes, we do use dry-suits in Florida!)
During the winter months our area is greatly affected by strong winds brought about by each cold front that passes. Consequently, our diving is accomplished between them. The winter winds can also have a negative effect on near shore visibility as the wave action stirs up the bottom.
Location description: Fantasea Scuba is located on the beautiful southwest coast in Port Charlotte, Florida. The South West Coast of Florida offers many exciting dive opportunities. Unlike the East Coast, known for its expanses of coral reefs, we more than compensate with large and diverse fish populations.
The Fantasea Scuba calendar will feature dives to many favorite Gulf diving sites during the year. Captain Jeff Steele takes you to the sites on his ``Spair Time`` charters.
Dive charters in our area are primarily ``six pack`` (six diver boats). This enables them to range out faster as the 50-60 foot sites are 12-14 miles off shore.
Beach dives are very popular on the small reefs at Boca Grande and just to our north at Venice Beach, the ``shark tooth capital``. Searching for shark`s teeth and other fossils is extremely popular here. We also offer a charter just off shore to an area known as the ``Bone Yard``, which has been very productive for large shark-teeth.
The Bayronto is a 400 foot freighter sitting upside down in 100 feet of water with her keel extending upwards to 80 feet. She was sunk in a hurricane in 1919. The wreck is broken in half about mid-ship with the stern section held higher by the wheelhouse, resulting in a large cavernous type entrance into the stern section. The hull of the ship is covered with both hard and soft corals attracting many species of fish both large and small. An October 2003 dive brought about an incredible interactive encounter with a 22-24 foot Whale Shark.
The Tremblay reef site consists of bridge rubble from the Peace River North bound I-75 Bridge that was replaced in 2003. The bulk of this reef is made up of 85 foot long I-beam girders that weigh about 82 tons apiece, randomly dumped in a criss-cross pattern which achieved 19 feet of reveal. There is also plenty of piling, platforms, and decking slabs, to make for a wonderful fish haven. This reef site is massive in size and holds many species of fish both large and small. This site is generally dove as a drift dive, due to the difficulty of navigation. You can wonder around the site for the whole dive and the boat will pick you up where ever you surface.
The Palm Island Ferry Reef Site consists of the ferry, which is setting upside down in 58ft of water, approximately 15 miles West of Gasparilla pass. Also on the site is a 70ft x 24ft barge setting upright within 150ft of the Ferry. Scattered between the two barges are about 40 tons of concrete culvert modules providing excellent habitat. This is a great dive site with little or no current and lots to see. Bring a dive light to look inside the barges. Penetration is not recommended unless properly trained!
This reef site is home for 15-30 Goliath Grouper in the 100-500 lb. class, and many other exciting species of sea life. What you will see depends on the season.
