Company description Hood Sport `n Dive is a full-service dive shop right on Hood Canal. We offer regular and high pressure nitrox and air fills while you wait, rental and sales of scuba gear, an extensive line of technical diving gear, and on-site, factory-authorized service and repair of many major brands.
Hood Sport `n Dive offers exclusive no-bank beach access to Sund Rock Marine Preserve dive sites. Since there`s no harvesting in the two local Preserves of Sund Rock and Octopus Hole, we suggest you do your shooting with a camera. We rent Sea & Sea MX-10 cameras with external strobes and sell the full line of Sea & Sea products.

Ron Ault started filling tanks in a propane and espresso stand in Potlatch, and moved to the present dive shop in 1997. He brings with him years of experience underwater, first diving mud holes in central Texas as a kid. He grew up and moved on to salvage diving in the navy, and joined the prestigious Navy Experimental Diving Unit in its early days. He was the first person to dive below 1000 feet in the open ocean. What`s it look like down there? Much like the concrete floor of the dive shop, he says, but with a real soft bottom.
After leaving the navy, Ron took some underwater jobs in construction and salvage, and did an exciting stint in the sewers of New York City. He came to Washington state in 1975 and started a long career in commercial harvesting of geoducks, urchins, and sea cucumbers. He figures he`s walked the entire bottom of the state`s inland waters down to about 70 feet, and much of the open coast as well.
In 1995 Ron returned to his roots of scuba diving at Hood Sport `n Dive. He`s even started wearing a BC, and is using fins again. He hasn`t slowed down on telling sea tales, and he`s usually ready to tell you one anytime the shop`s not too busy.

Mike started diving just before he joined the navy, more years ago than he likes to admit, and is presently training in deep technical diving when he`s not in the shop working on regulators.
Mike will be glad to help you by filling your tank or advising you on gear selection.

Scuba Gear & Rentals

We offer a full line of recreational scuba equipment, with regulators by Poseidon, Pro Sub and Dacor, including the new Dacor Viper. We also sell and service the Ocean Reef full face mask, with and without communication units. We carry BC`s by Dacor, and several different back-inflation models listed on our tech gear page.

Suits, hoods, gloves and boots are always important in cold water, and we carry a full line of wet suits and accessories, and drysuits by Whites and OS Systems. And to keep warm in our colder waters, we also carry Weezle Diving Undersuits.
If you need accessories, you can find lights, knives, hooks and snaps, dive flags, masks, fins and gear bags galore in Hoodsport. We stock dive computers by Dive Rite and OMS.
We cater to the Nitrox diver, with a custom-made fill station that sets a new standard for safety, and high pressure fills while you wait. We carry Nitrox computers and oxygen analyzers for sale.
You can rent everything you need for a day of diving at Hood Sport `n Dive, from a single pair of gloves to a full set of dive gear. Occasionally, we have some used gear, demo gear or old rentals for sale. And since we`re right on the water, if it`s in stock you can dive it before you buy it.

Hood Canal is a tech divers playground, with easy access to deep water without the usual Washington currents, and we are happy to give you more advice than you could possibly need on gear configurations and equipment selection.
For the tech diver, we offer back-inflation BC systems by Halcyon, OMS, Dive Rite, Poseidon, and Dacor. See our links page for more information on these manufacturers and their products. We are proud to be the northwest`s biggest dealer of Halcyon equipment, and keep different configurations of their BC systems in stock, as well as accessories and our own custom-made weighted tank mounts.
We carry several brands of steel tanks in many sizes, as well as stainless steel double tank bands. We also carry isolation manifolds for twin tank set-ups.
Deep divers choose Poseidon regulators, and we sell and service several models. You`ll also find a good selection of wreck reels and the hot-selling male decompression diver`s drysuit accessory, the Dive Rite Pee Valve. And to help in staying warm while doing those long decompression stops, consider a Weezle undergarment.
We offer exclusive walk-in shore access to the Sund Rock Marine Preserve, and can control the number of shore divers in the Preserve at any given time. Beach fees include an on-site Port-a-Potty and hot showers at the Rest-a-While Boathouse.
Easy entry and lack of current at the site make this an ideal place for classes. Space fills up fast on weekends, so please check with us in advance before planning to use this shore access. Reservations are available for dive classes and large groups of six or more.
Marine conservation at Sund Rock has led to abundant sea life. Come see the wealth of rockfish, lingcod, octopus and wolf eels, as well as nudibranchs, sponges, anemones, shrimp, crabs and sea stars.
Many of these species also lay their eggs in the Preserve. Remember the only shooting and collecting allowed is with a camera, and we`ll be happy to set you up with a rental camera and strobe.
