Company description
OMNI SCUBA is nestled in a rural 14 acre wooded spot 2/10 of a mile West of St. Elmo, IL. along the Brickyard Road. We are very proud of what we have built here, starting from a mere $3000 investment. This company has grown leaps and bounds, but we are still considered a ``small shop`` and we really like it that way. Our staff is the finest in the region and our facilities are envied by many. Our students compliment us for the high standards of training we deliver, and they return to us year after year for further training. Our shop is operated for the convenience of our customers.
OMNI Scuba is an authorized Scuba Schools International (SSI) facility;
our instructors also teach programs from Dive Rescue International
and IDEA, making us a diverse educational facility.
We teach small and personal classes, we do not allow more
than ``SIX`` students in a class, to give maximum instructor to
student ratios. Small classes give both our customer and us a
chance to ``know`` each other and build a trust. We truly
believe in our philosophy and hands-on approach to relationships.
What make us your best choice in diving?
1. Honesty
2. Experience
3. Safety – no student injuries
4. Personalized instruction
5. Home Study Program
6. Handicap scuba classes
7. Competitive Pricing

Location description:
We have three submerged vehicles in the quarry. Local dive rescue teams use the cars for training and lift them occasionally to new spots. We have a small (14ft)-runabout fiberglass boat also placed in the quarry to play on. A small lawn tractor marks the start of the south wall tour and it ends just of our small island located in the southwest corner of the quarry.
We have a training platform (8’ x 16’) submerged at 20 ft; this platform is marked with a white buoy and is available to anyone wishing to check their skills. Instructors bringing 4 or more divers dive for free. Instructors will also be glad to know that the quarry is only about 30 feet deep, therefore you can let students’ dive with confidence, knowing they are not exceeding 1ATM. Entry/ exit is completed from a wooden dock with a ladder located on the eastern side of the quarry. A covered pavilion and gear racks are available, as well as a couple of picnic tables. There is now a porta-potty onsite.
Terry and Ruth Ann Trueblood purchased this quarry through their company, specifically for those reasons.
The Brickyard Quarry is nestled in a 14-acre plot near the south-central Illinois town of St. Elmo. The rustic and remote setting adds to the ``private dive area`` concept. The Quarry is set aside solely for scuba diving and snorkeling.
The Brickyard Quarry is named for its past. Many decades ago, local mining operations were conducted at the quarry to harvest material for the making of bricks. The remains of the old brick factory are up on the eastern hill of the quarry. The quarry was abandoned in the early 1970’s and left to flood. It was said, that the bottom of the quarry was laid with brick, although fill has covered much of that history; you can occasionally find a bright red brick along one the walls in the quarry. We have located portions of the old rail system that was used, though much of it is now twisted through our underwater forest.
The Quarry is typical of central Illinois waterways, it is affected by weather, if you plan to dive immediately after a rainfall, visibility will be poorer than during a hot two weeks dry period in mid summer. Normally, visibility is 8 to 30 feet, but can appear to the novice eye to differ from that. We have 10 full acres of water here. About 3 acres is underwater forest, located primarily along the northern side of the quarry. This is were the big catfish lay in mid-summer sunbathing and resting in the trees, normally reserved for birds.
We have allowed no fishing in the quarry for several years, in order to increase the fish population; and our efforts are paying off. Along the south side of the quarry just at the top of the wall (8 to 10 ft) you will see the heavy grasses and plant growth which houses many of our newborn fish, each year. We have largemouth bass, sunfish, catfish and a couple of turtles who remain year round residents.
