Company description Southern Ohio Diving Academy is the Miami Valley`s most experienced and caring dive center in the area. We take pride in serving every customer with a smile and making sure our customers walk away happy too. SODA has the largest and most experienced staff of any dive shop in the area. We realize that new divers have many, many questions that need answering. We will answer those questions and talk to you about equipment, classes or trips all day long. That`s what we`re here for...you.
SODA believes it`s not only our job to make you feel right at home in our store, but in the water as well. SODA trains more divers than anyone in the Miami Valley and we take immense pride in knowing that every diver we certify is a safe diver who is comfortable in the water.
SODA also offers the largest in-house inventory of any dive center around. After all, if we don`t have the item in stock, how can we sell it to you? Masks, snorkels, fins, computers, regulators, swim gear, bags, watches, dive accessories...you have to stop in to see just how much we have in stock. And if you ever have a problem with an item, SODA works hard to do right by you so you`ll keep coming back to us!
Having the largest staff also allows us to teach more classes than anyone in the area. Need a class that isn`t on our schedule? Give us a call, we`ll schedule it for you personally. Need a dive buddy? We have 7 continuously going Open Water Classes! Yep, at least 7 classes either going or getting ready to go...year round!
As a certified Open Water Diver, you have the freedom to dive with a buddy independent of a professional. If you`re not in a hurry to get certified then a STANDARD CLASS is probably the best fit for you.
Open Water Diver Rating - This is a lifetime certification which allows divers to dive to a maximum depth of 60-100 feet with a buddy independent of professional supervision.
3 Steps of the Certification Process - A student must pass all three parts of the certification process in order to achieve an Open Water Diver Rating. Step one: Classwork - Step Two: Pool Skills - Step Three: Open Water Checkout Dives.
Standard Class Cost - $169 per student. YMCA Members receive a $25 discount.
Required Equipment - Students must supply their own mask, snorkel and fins for the course. All major dive equipment is provided.
SODA Student Discount - All SODA students receive a 10% In-Store discount on most any purchase for the duration of their class.
What is a ``Discover Scuba``? - The Discover Scuba session listed before each class start date is a free session designed to allow a potential student the opportunity to try diving before signing up for a class. A Discover Scuba is absolutely free and SODA schedules a Discover one week before the beginning of each of our Standard Classes. A SODA Instructor will be on-hand to explain the dive gear, help you get into the gear and into the water (shallow end ONLY) and answer any questions you may have regarding scuba or the upcoming class.
The next certification following Open Water is Advanced Open Water Diver. This certification allows you to dive to deeper depths in your diving career. Unless you take SODA`s SINCLAIR ADVANCED OPEN WATER CLASS, there is no classroom involved with this certification. This certification includes five Adventure Dives, including the Deep Adventure Dive, the Underwater Navigator Adventure Dive and three of the following: Altitude Diver, Boat Diver, Drift Diver, Deep Diver, Dry Suit Diver, Diver Propulsion Vehicle, Multilevel Diver, Night Diver, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery Diver, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Videographer, Underwater Photographer, Underwater Navigator, AWARE Fish Identification or Wreck Diver.
Location description: Come in and visit us at 1212 E. Stroop Road in Kettering or at our Vandalia store located at 340 National Road. Some dive centers like to boast they have an on-site pool. SODA has access to 9 different pools! Nine! Most of which we can get you into day or night...24 hours a day. You might have to hop in a car and drive 5 minutes to get there, but at least you don`t have the added expense of paying for our pool!
Standard Open Water Classes offered at the Beavercreek YMCA, Downtown Dayton YMCA, Englewood YMCA, Kettering South Community YMCA, Moraine Natatorium, Springboro Coffman Family YMCA and the West Carrollton YMCA. A diver must complete four dives performing the required skills in order to complete the Open Water Course. These dives are completed in an open water environment (eg. quarry, lake, ocean) over the course of two days. Southern Ohio Diving Academy offers several options regarding Open Water Checkouts. During the warm summer months, SODA completes most Open Water Checkouts at Natural Springs Resort in New Paris OH ($175). In Winter, we offer two trips to Northern Florida in order to accommodate checkouts.
And if you need to get away from it all, SODA offers the most exciting diving trips you`ll find from any dive center...ANYWHERE. Our trips have been featured in the Dayton Daily News more than once. And they are affordable. We include airfare, diving, hotel and most of the time meals in our package prices so there are no surprise fees when you get there. We are out of the country every other month and promise if you go on one trip with us...you`ll be spoiled for life.
