*Eluthera
The island of Eluthera stretches over 90 miles of ocean and shallow banks. This area encompasses beautiful waters for sailing, protected coves and unexplored shores.
The coastline of Eluthera is stunning, with rolling hills interspersed with white-sand beaches. Many of the settlements along the coastline have been described as reminiscent of Cornish villages. The rugged eastern shore is often inaccessible, but the favored lee shore allows access to the high cliffs and views of the open Atlantic.
Eluthera offers several ports of call, including the quaint Gregory Town and the historical Governor`s Harbour.
Watersports such as sailing, snorkeling, kayaking and surfing are all popular in Eluthera.
*Harbour Island
Harbour Island, while not connected to Eluthera is close enough to be considered part of it. It is a beautiful island with cottages dating back to the 1800`s, winding streets that are traveled by golf carts and quaint shops. The Jewel of Harbour Island is its world-renowned pink sand beaches. The beach faces the Atlantic and is fringed by a barrier reefs. Swim in the warm surf, stroll the beach or ride a horse through the water! A trip to Harbour Island is like taking a trip back in time- Bahamas style!
*Exumas
Experience the ONLY way to see the Exumas! Many visitors to the Exumas stay in Georgetown, the `big city` of the Exuma chain, and really miss out on all the Exumas have to offer. Sail this chain of islands over 90 miles long with 365 islands and Cays many of which are uninhabited. Walk along powder-white beaches where the only footprints are yours! See dazzling sunsets over the calm waters of the bay. Snorkel and swim in water so clear you`ll swear it isn`t there at all.
This string of emerald islands, ringed by pink and white sands, is set in a sea of stunning color: from the azure and turquoise of the shallow banks, to the sapphire and cobalt of the deep Exuma Sound. Most of the settlements on the islands are small and picturesque, yet both on the sea and on land you`ll never be bored: There`s just so much to see and do!
Fishing of all kinds in the Exumas is excellent. Snorkeling on shallow reefs can be found on either side of the islands. Beautiful beaches are found virtually everywhere, and spectacular diving on the Sound side with plunging walls is both dramatic and pristine.
Do you like fresh seafood? There is none better than in the Exumas! Delight your tastebuds with fresh-caught lobster or the delectable native conch!
The Exumas Land and Sea Park founded by the Bahamas National Trust is a sanctuary for birds, plants and marine life. The diving and snorkeling within the 22 by 8 mile park area are incredible and a visit to Warderick Wells is worthwhile to explore the over four miles of trails, which lead to rare plants, caves, wells and ruins.
