Company description Welcome to Gary Jackson`s
Psalty Adventures
Built on a philosophy of fast boats, small groups and resort service, PSALTY ADVENTURES has become the premier six pack dive boat in Southern California. Our adventure excursions will take you shark diving, wall diving, oil rig diving and wreck diving in speed and comfort. Look through our schedule of events, or book your own custom excursion on the Psalty V. Thank you for visiting PSALTY ADVENTURES.
Psalty Adventures is owned and operated by Gary Jackson. A seasoned professional in the diving industry, Gary has dive store management experience as well as having been on staff of PADI International and Scuba Schools International. The past six years have been spent running dive charters and shark excursions in Southern California. This experience has allowed Psalty Adventures to become one of the most active charter operations in Southern California with a booking rate of 70% repeat customers. With a ``fast boat and small group`` philosophy, you get excellent customer service, and uncrowed dive sites.
Customize your own trip: We can organize any trip you can dream up.
Burial at Sea
The Psalty caters to small, intimate groups for custom burial at sea ceremonies. Plan your trip to be exactly as you want, including the location of the ceremony, amenities, timing, and length of stay. Captain Jackson will personally sprinkle the post cremation remains of your loved ones in the friendly waters of the Pacific Ocean.
The trip will extend over the legal distance required off the coast. The time and position will be noted for the Burial at Sea Certificate. Upon the completion of the sea burial ceremony, this certificate of performance will be presented to the family or caregiver.
Party Cruises
Charter the Psalty for a day long (or longer...) party cruise. Perhaps you`ll choose a trip to Catalina with excursions to shore. Or enjoy a tour around the island. Some party ``cruisers`` opt for leisure excursions along the beautiful Long Beach shoreline (with stops along the way!), while others want to see the oil islands up close and personal. Design your own Psalty party cruise or ask Captain Jackson for some ideas. Whatever you decide, a party cruise on the Psalty will be a adventure you will never forget!
Whale Watching
You can always join a crowded ``cattle boat`` to see the whales, but imagine a combined party cruise and whale watching trip on your own private vessel - the Psalty. Private state rooms, great food and drink, spacious lounge area... well you get the picture! Turn a normal whale watching experience into an unforgettable adventure... a ``Psalty adventure!
Location description: Oil Rigs
A dive site requiring advanced certification, the rigs are a bustle of activity with crew boats coming and going, and the hum of the machinery going non stop. Underwater however, is a divers dream. Teaming with colorful anemones, scallops, schooling fish and the occasional pelagic, this is California diving at its best. Visibility is consistently good and great photo opportunities are abundant.
Catalina Island
The site is marked by a permanent buoy that sits on a reef that breaks the surface on low tide. We usually anchor within 25 yards of the buoy which provides divers with access to the wall on the opposite side of the reef. The wall dive provides for depths ranging from 30 feet to 120 feet of depth. It is common to see schools of barracuda, yellowtail tuna and the rare white sea bass. The wall is also home to numerous lobster, eels and octopus.
For our multi-day trips, we also include shore excursions and tours of the Catalina Island Conservancy. For your non-diving family, we can let them off on the island to sight see, golf, horseback ride, take a glassbottom boat ride or shop on the island.
Available only with private charters.
Santa Barbara Island
On occasion, they will jump up on the platform to hurry you up. With a depth of 25 feet and a sandy bottom, you will have plenty of time to photograph and interact with these playful critters. The Arch is another favorite as it is an intact underwater arch found in 70 feet of water. Riddled with caves and gullies, this is a fantastic dive with great photographic opportunities. Sutil Island is located off the southwest tip of Santa Barbara Island and offers some spectacular wall and kelp diving. This is the island were we also conduct some of our shark dives.
San Nicholas Island
Lying 25 miles southwest of Santa Barbara Island, this island is owned by the military and is occasionally closed to sport diving and fishing activities. When it is open, the water are abundant with fish, lobster, scallops and abalone. The dive sites most popular are Dutch Harbor, East End, and 3-Mile Reef.
San Clemente Island.
Since 1973, San Clemente Island has belonged to the military. It is a wonder that with all of the bombing, gunnery practice, and landings that any sea life has survived on or in the nearby waters. Yet pinnipeds flourish here, and even rare purple hydro-coral has withstood direct attacks from the military missions. Warnings apply here even more as Pyramid Cove has been a favorite target area for years and live shells can be found lying on the bottom. At Castle Rock , a rocky crater lies at 40 feet and is believed to have once been an active volcano from which the island was formed. Although used as a direct bombing target in 1969, the purple coral has survived and should for many years to come if not harvested. With numerous sites to choose from, our favorites are Mosquito Cove, Fishhook Harbor, China Point, Northwest Harbor and Cortes Bank.
