Company description We are independent scuba instructors who can teach you all levels of recreational scuba diving from the openwater certification to Divemaster. So unlike most scuba diving instructors, we are not employed by a scuba diving store so we won`t pressure you into buying equipment. We teach the YMCA scuba program, the oldest scuba diving agency in the US. In the 45 years since its inception, YMCA SCUBA continues to provide the highest level of community-oriented education for divers and instructors based on the principles of the YMCA.
Our goal is to teach you in the safest way. When teaching in the pool or in the ocean, we keep small classes with no more than 6 students in each class !! Compare that to other schools with classes where you will be sometimes up to twenty students at the same time in the pool or the ocean. Furthermore, with us, for 6 students in the water, you will have not one but TWO instructors ! Try to find this quality of service elsewhere. This small number of students in each class and the very low student/instructor ratio allow us to provide what we feel is the best quality of instruction.

Location description: YMCA Openwater Diver certification
This is the entry level certification. All scuba divers start with this certification.
Learning to SCUBA dive is safe, affordable and requires a modest amount of training. An entry-level certification course takes approximately 32 hours to complete during day or evening classes from a couple of weekends to several weeks. In order to earn a SCUBA certification, you will participate in classroom sessions and practice essential diving skills in a pool. Finally, you will test your knowledge on a written exam and apply your skills during training dives in a lake, quarry, spring or ocean (most of the time, we will go to Monterey). Upon completion, you will receive a certification card that identifies you as a diver, allowing you to rent SCUBA equipment, participate in advanced training and explore exotic diving destinations.
Class content:
The class includes about 32 hours of classroom teaching (16 hours) and pool training (16 hours). The Open Water SCUBA Course is offered in two schedule formats. A Weeknight Format or a Weekend Accelerated Format.
The Weeknight Format is a four weeks course consisting of eight classroom/pool sessions (twice a week), and ocean dives on the final weekend of the class.
The Weekend Accelerated Format is the exact same course except that it is done in just three weekends! The first two weekends consists of all the class and pool sessions, then the ocean dives are done on the third weekend of the class.
If you pass all swimming pool and written tests, we will go to Monterey for the ocean dives. They include:
1 skin dive
4 scuba dives
