Company description
Blackbeard’s Cruises offers liveaboard scuba diving adventure travel vacations to the Out Islands of the Bahamas. Reef, wreck, wall, drift, night and shark dives are offered on each trip. Our 3 sailboats; Sea Explorer, Morning Star and Pirate’s Lady, offer Caribbean diving and snorkeling cruises to the Out Islands of the Western Bahamas.
Blackbeard’s Cruises sails each Saturday for weeklong scuba diving liveaboard adventure vacation cruises to the Biminis, Grand Bahamas, Berries, Andros, Cay Sal Banks, or Nassau areas. Divers can experience deep sea diving on the many beautiful walls. Sharks are a big draw for divers! See Caribbean Reef tip sharks, nurse sharks, even tiger sharks on the sandy banks! Colorful reefs teeming with marine life sit in depths of 15- 80 feet so divers of all levels enjoy the scuba diving we offer on our Bahamas scuba diving vacations!
The western Bahamas were once the hideout of pirates and privateers... now these islands offer spectacular diving in warm, crystal clear waters with deserted beaches as backdrop each week during our adventure travel vacations.
There is no set itinerary- we go where the diving conditions and weather are the best to offer our divers an adventure of a lifetime! Live-aboard diving offers the best variety of diving available- check out the famous Road to Atlantis, dive with sharks at Bull Run, watch eagle rays gracefully glide by, or shoot photos of all the great macro and micro shots you’ll see in the gin clear water of the Bahamas. Blackbeard’s Cruises is recognized by divers as one of the best live aboard experiences available year after year!
Scuba Diving Travel with us is a breeze! Our all inclusive scuba diving adventure travel vacations are popular with outgoing individuals from all over the world! We supply everything but your personal gear and towels. Blackbeard’s Cruises offers top of the line high quality rental gear for those who require it. The camaraderie and adventure on our liveaboard diving vacation keeps divers coming back year after year.
Blackbeard`s Cruises will begin full time operation from Freeport, Grand Bahamas effective all trips departing Dec 28, 2005 and thereafter. It`s a new year and a new beginning for the pirate and our diving buddies!
Here are just a few reasons why we`ve made this decision:
1) The expense of doing business from Miami has forced us to either drive up prices to cover costs or relocate in order to continue to offer great diving and great prices! Port taxes on all trips departing from Freeport will only be 40.00 per person. (The port taxes in Miami for 2006 were slated to be 65.00!)
2) Travel from Miami in the winter can be a bit rough across the Gulf Stream from west to east and back at week`s end. Flying into Freeport eliminates the 6-8 hours of crossing and gets divers in the water on Saturday instead of Sunday.
3) Freeport is a great port! We will still offer a night in Bimini midweek. The last night will be spent in Freeport at week`s end. Passengers are free to explore the island in Freeport. When in Miami, they were stuck on board waiting until customs came to clear them into the country on Friday morning!
4) Extended area of diving will be enjoyed by all as we can now include Grand Bahamas, Sandy Banks and the backside of Andros in the itineraries. Our passengers especially like going to new places and this expands our options dramatically. Tiger shark trips will be added to the itinerary too- keep in touch to stay in the loop on this exciting new itinerary for 2006!
5) Airfare to Freeport is easy to arrange and we are just 15 minutes from the airport to the dock. Transfers are available with prior arrangements.
Location description:
Bimini Road - Also known as the road to Atlantis. This 20` dive is made up of large rectangular stones on a sandy bottom. Many people believe it to be man made, possibly a road from the lost city of Atlantis. You will be surprised by the richness of marine life. It makes a great snorkel or dive. Bull Run - The sight of Blackbeard`s Shark Dive but it would be a nice dive even without sharks. The coral grows on high mounds with swim throughs and overhangs. Azure Vase Sponges sprout in many locations. The shark feeding is done on a flat sandy area with a tall coral ridge on one side and sea grass meadow on the other. In addition to the Caribbean Reef and Nurse Sharks there are Black Groupers, Gray Angelfish and Yellowtail Snappers waiting for the food. Hesperus - Also known as the turtle wreck. It has numerous loggerhead turtles, barracudas, sting rays, nurse sharks and occasionally you see other types of sharks. It is visited by many pelagics, kingfish, mackerel, pompano, permit and cobia. Large schools of snapper and grunts. It lies in 15` of water. Victory Reef - A five mile long reef with many dive sites. A sloping reef starting at 30` and sloping to 80`. Many caves and overhangs. It is on the edge of the Gulf Stream, so it attracts many pelagics. Some of the dive sights along this reef are Blue Chromis, Rainbow Valley, Cathedral, Sponge Gardens and Tuna Alley. Bethel Channel - A labyrinth of corals in 50`. One group discovered an unusual cleaning station here. At a large Star Coral three different fish, two juvenile Spanish Hogfish, two Bluehead Wrasse and a small pack of Neon Gobies were cleaning a clutch of Creole Wrasse that were standing straight up on their heads. Potomac - A wreck of a cargo steamer in a reef at 20`. The variety of life on this shallow reef is amazing. Everyone comes up talking about something different. A list of one group was octopus, lobster, a Nurse Shark, Rainbow Parrotfish, Doctorfish, hermit crabs, Arrowcrabs, Soldierfish, Reef Squid and several spotted morays.
Anchor Wreck - The wreck of an old steamer with several anchors in 15` of water. Very colorful because it is so shallow. Many varieties of fish, crabs and other crustaceans. Dark Star and Swiss Cheese - These are 50` reefs with 35` tall coral heads. Many caves and swim throughs. On night dives you will see numerous Basket Stars, all types of shrimp, large clinging crabs, octopus, file clams. There are many varieties of large gorgonia, sea fans, tunicates and hard corals.
Lucayan Caves - Grid line coral with 15` profile starting at 50` and dropping down to 90`. Numerous sharks and large schools of fish. Theo`s Wreck - A 230` fully intact wreck lying with the rudder next to the wall. The top is at 65` and the bottom is at 110`. There is a friendly large Green Moray that likes to be fed plus several Spotted Morays. A large colony of Orange Cup Corals is under the bow. See if you can find where Theo`s is burned into the wreck.
