Location description:
Lauderdale by the Sea, often known as the ``Shore diving capitol of South Florida`` is the only place where living coral reefs are accessible from the shore in the continental USA.
You choose when to dive, be it in the beauty of a serene sunrise or the excitement of a twilight adventure, it awaits you literally 100 yards away. Just rent a dive flag and we will point you in the right direction.
Our pier creates interest from the marine life, creating an abundance of activity - it really is a fiesta for the fish and a carnival of colors that will take your breath away.
Offering something for all divers, We specialize in the needs of beach divers here in Lauderdale by the Sea, the Shore-diving Capitol of South Florida. Everything from rental gear, dive flags, to air and weights are available. Having the only living coral reef in North America only a 100 yards from the shore makes the dives both easy to access and not difficult for any level of experience a diver may have.
There are over forty artificial reef sites we dive, most of them shipwrecks. In all depths and suited to all different skill levels, we can provide you with all the wreck diving thrills you can handle. Our newest addition to the `collection` is the 150` United Caribbean, sunk near her neighbors, the Noula Express and the Sea Emperor south of the Boca Raton Inlet about a mile offshore. Already home to schools of bar jacks and yellowtails, complete with the required barracuda keeping watch in the wheelhouse, the ``United Caribbean`` sits upright in 73` with her superstructure topping out at 45``.
A mile and a half north of the Hillsboro Inlet, a 5 to 8-foot ledge in depths from 34 to 40 feet. This is a great shallow dive. Visitors often see many different species of tropical fish, lobster and a variety of hard and soft corals.
The Pompano Dropoff reef includes some of the most popular dive sites in South Florida for diving, snorkeling and glass bottom boat rides. The Nursery, Caves, and the wreck of the Copenhagen can all be found on this shallow reef line. Ranging in depth from 12` to 30` it is a very popular spot for seeing some friendly nurse sharks, stingrays and lobsters.
A mile north of the Hillsboro Inlet, Opal Towers is a 5 to 8-foot ledge in depths from 34 to 40 feet. This another great shallow dive. The shallow drift dives offer the return of vibrant colors, sponges, corals and 1000`s of tropicals. You can also find lobster, eels, turtles and various other reef inhabitants.
La Bonte is one mile north of the Hillsboro Inlet. The top of this reef is in 35 feet of water and reaches to a sandy bottom at 45 feet. This is a nice beginner`s reef since it is relatively close to shore, easy to find, and contains an excellent variety of fish and invertebrate life. The inside edge is full of holes. Lobsters, Snapper and Grouper can be found.
