Company description
The Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) is the Australian national occupational diver accreditation scheme administered under a Memorandum of Understanding between the ADAS Board and the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources of the Australian Government.
ADAS is administered and quality controlled in line with the terms of the agreement with the Australian Government by a voluntary industry Board. The Board represents a wide cross section of occupational diving sectors and aims to ensure that ADAS remains at the forefront of international occupational diver certification bodies.
The Australian Diver Accreditation Scheme (ADAS) is the Australian national occupational diver certification scheme. It was developed by the Australian Government as a not-for-profit diver training and accreditation scheme operating at the level of world best practice. It is administered on a cost-recovery basis by the ADAS Board under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commonwealth Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources.
ADAS is a member of the International Diving Regulators` Forum and has formal recognition arrangements with a number of countries that ensure that the ADAS Certificate of Competency is recognised as equivalent to the national diving qualifications of that country. This ensures that occupational diving may be undertaken in that country`s jurisdiction on the ADAS certificate or by automatic cross-over to the national certification.
ADAS offers accreditation to divers who can establish that they have been assessed by an ADAS Diving Training Establishment as meeting the competency requirements of the relevant ADAS/AS 2815 Part(s). This accreditation is only valid whilst diving operations are being undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation and operational standards and for a diver, whilst in possession of a current AS 2299 medical certificate certifying him or her fit to dive.
It particular, ADAS accredits diver training establishments (DTEs) to conduct the training and competence assessments of divers to the levels of the various Parts and to recommend their accreditation under the Scheme. Accreditation as an ADAS DTE is conditional upon meeting demanding entry requirements and, thereafter, maintaining compliance with rigorous ongoing quality-assurance conditions.
ADAS training programs are designed specifically to conform with the requirements of the Australian Standard AS 2815 - Training and Certification of Occupational Divers. This Standard was developed by the SF/17 industry Diving Committee of Standards Australia in conjunction with ADAS and overseas diver training authorities, expressly to define the minimum acceptable competency standards for the various levels of occupational divers.
ADAS has since developed comprehensive instruction and assessement guidelines that specify to DTEs the exact detail of the courses and how they are to conduct them.
Location description:
ADAS certification is a necessary or desirable qualification for entry into all worthwhile diving jobs - with the right ADAS ticket, you are eligible to work in the diving job of your choice throughout the world.
The appropriate ADAS training equips you with the competencies required for entry into your preferred diving workplace, whether it is as a scientific researcher, military work diver, offshore or onshore construction diver, aquaculture or police SAR diver.
ADAS training programs are designed specifically to conform with the requirements of the Australian Standard AS 2815 - Training and Certification of Occupational Divers. This Standard was developed by the SF/17 Diving Committee of Standards Australia in conjunction with ADAS and overseas diver training authorities, expressly to define the minimum acceptable competency standards for the various levels of occupational divers.
*Part 1
This Part addresses the training activities and competencies required for the training and accreditation of air divers who are required to work safely and competently using self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (SCUBA) is for no-decompression diving only and covers the use of hand tools underwater to depths of 30 metres. Divers with this level of accreditation may, for example, work in the scientific, fishing, marine archaeology, engineering inspection fields.
*Part 2:
This Part addresses the training activities and competencies required for the training and accreditation of air divers who are required to work safely and competently:
using surface-supplied underwater breathing apparatus (SSBA) to depths of 30 metres; and on sites where no surface compression chambers are required. This is the minimum level of training required to work as a construction diver. Training in the use of powered tools, cutting and welding, underwater construction and underwater explosives equips the diver with the basic skills necessary to work safely underwater.
*Part 3:
This Part addresses the training activities and competencies required for the training and accreditation of air divers who are required to work safely and competently:
using surface-supplied underwater breathing apparatus (SSBA) to depths of 50 metres; and on sites with surface compression chambers in conformance.
Restricted accreditation for Parts 2 and 3 is available to those divers whose diving duties require only limited use of plant, tools and equipment. A diver may obtain a restricted accreditation by completing only the modules relevant to his/her desired work i.e. by deleting the four modules which cover underwater construction techniques and equipment: - use of powered tools, cutting and welding, underwater construction and underwater explosives. A restricted diver may later upgrade to full accreditation by completing the outstanding modules as specified in the Standard.
