Company description
BlueBeyond Concepts operates the BlueBeyond.com.au website. We focus on providing information regarding the underwater world, through articles, photography and courses and workshops regarding scuba diving and photography.
One of the aims of BlueBeyond Concepts is to provide information regarding the underwater world, through articles, photography and courses and workshops regarding scuba diving and photography.
Generally our courses and workshops are run through United Divers Wollongong, a PADI 5 Star Dive Centre and our favourite dive shop. Courses can however be arranged at other locations, depending on availability. Some of the courses we offer include
One of the most limiting factors in diving is the lack of time before reaching “No Stop Limitsâ€. This is particularly frustrating for the underwater photographer, who is all too often faced with reaching their limits before finishing their objectives.
One of the options to gain an increase in bottom time is the use of Enriched Air Nitrox - air that has been enriched with additional oxygen. With proper use, Enriched Air can increase bottom time significantly. But there are additional considerations for safety.
This course consists of thorough theory relating to advantages and disadvantages relating to enriched air, dive planning, oxygen exposure, dive emergencies, multilevel diving and oxygen analysis and fill logging. There are 2 fun dives where you will apply your new knowledge, and experience first hand the benefits of enriched air.
SDI Solo Diver
This is one of those courses whose name does not do justice to the program. This program is all about giving the properly qualified and equipped diver the skills and knowledge to be self-sufficient on a dive (whether buddy diving or not).
Most underwater photographers find themselves not staying with the pack on a dive, and in many cases are focused on their photography and not their buddy. Other divers enjoy being alone on a dive from time to time. In either case, the diver must be self-sufficient.
This course does not advocate solo diving, rather it gives the diver the framework to know when to dive solo themselves, and when to buddy dive. But in any case, the course does advocate the concept of self-sufficiency in diving.
PADI Underwater Photographer
This is a great introductory course for divers interested in underwater photography, and for underwater photographers wanting to further develop their skills. The course covers photographic principles, the effects of water on light, equipment, diving with a camera, composition, film choice, and various underwater photography situations.
Two dives are conducted, offering the participant the chance to put into immediate practice the learnings from the course.
This course is tailored to the participants, based on their prior photographic experience, equipment and goals.
Digital Darkroom Techniques
For the photographer who wants to get more from their digital image - whether captured on film or digitally. The workshop provides an introduction to the digital darkroom, including the hardware and software to manipulate an image with confidence and ease.
Other Courses (email to enquire)
Deep Diver, Drysuit Diver, Equipment Specialist, Underwater Naturalist, Wreck Diver, Technical Diving, and more.

The People of BlueBeyond
Des Paroz is an avid scuba diver and underwater photographer. A PADI Master Instructor, Des also holds instructor qualifications with DAN, TDI/SDI and ANDI. In over 10 years of diving, Des has been fortunate to have dived in such exotic places as Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Thailand, Queensland’s Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef, the Florida Gulf Coasts and the quarries and lakes of Ohio and Indiana. The temperate water diving of NSW holds a special place for Des, and he and Belinda dive most weeks around Sydney, the Illawarra and beyond.
Belinda Briggs has been diving for more than 5 years, and is a PADI Rescue Diver. Belinda has dived extensively around Sydney, the Illawarra and Nelson Bay, as well as tropical diving experience in Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. Belinda has also had the unique experience of snorkelling in Antarctica. With a degree in linguistics and a masters in criminology, Belinda is the main writer for BlueBeyond.
Photographic Equipment
Currently, most of our photography is done with either a Nikon D100 SLR in an Aquatica housing, or a Nikon Coolpix 5200 in a Nikon proprietary housing. We also use a Nikon F80S in a Sea & Sea NX80 housing. Lenses used include wide angle (20mm & 16mm Fisheye), normal (35mm), macro (60mm) and zoom (12-24mm, 24-85mm and 70-300mm) Lighting is provided by a range of strobes, including a pair of Ikelite DS-125’s, a Sea & Sea YS-60/N and a Sea & Sea YS-30/Duo.
Over the years we have used a variety of camera equipment, including the ever-popular Nikonos V. For SLRs we have used housings from Ikelite, Sea and Sea and most recently Aquatica. The Ikelite housing is a terrific product, but the lack of a superwide dome port proved to be a limitation now that I am trying to improve my wreck and under/over photography, both using a fisheye lens requiring the superwide dome. The Sea & Sea is lovely product for the Nikon F80, but for the D100, we felt that the Sea & Sea product was too bulky and expensive. So we changed over to Aquatica, a product we have found to be both excellent and affordable.
Also we have written and provided images or other content for a number of articles that have been published
