Company description
At Batavia Coast Dive Academy we pride ourselves on producing well trained confident and independent divers. We achieve this with our personalised service. The SSI Open Water Diver course is presented at a level that can easily be understood, yet allows those who want greater depth to attain that knowledge.
Ask about our Oceanic Total Dive Systems. These are packages for people who want to purchase all their own equipment before or during the course so they can learn to use it during the course. If you chose a Total Dive System you receive a 10% discount on all the items. There are systems to cater for all budgets.
At Batavia Coast Dive Academy, we have a continuing education programme that Open Water divers can train in specialty areas that will help in the pursuit of their favourite underwater hobbies, (Search and Salvage, Deep Diving, Stress and rescue, Navigation, Equipment and many more).
Further education is also available for those divers who wish to go on into leadership roles. Training is available up to instructor level with our highly experienced staff.
At Batavia Coast Dive Academy we`d like to think that no diver would ever be afraid to ask us questions. We pride ourselves on our informal atmosphere to help foster a friendly learning and social environment, because learning continues long after the course is completed.
The SSI Open Water Diver Course is the first level in diver training. The course is designed to give students the basic understanding required to become a confident and safe diver.
The average course runs for approximately five days, usually a Friday night and two consecutive weekends. By the end of the course you will be left with an enormous sense of achievement and you`ll also possess an internationally recognized diving qualification for diving to a depth of 18m.
For those with the inclination to do more study at home and spend less of their weekend in the classroom there is the Home Study Program. It costs a little more but you get your own video to keep for further reference. This cuts the course down to four days, possibly less with a small enthusiastic class.
When you choose to do your SSI Open Water Diver course with Batavia Coast Dive Academy you pay a one off fee that covers all your equipment hire, educational materials, at least one boat dive, and air fills. Although we strongly recommend the purchase of your own mask and booties. This is for greater comfort, confidence and hygiene.
The course focuses on practical skills that are required for safe diving. These skills are firstly taught in the safety of our on site pool so that you can get the feel of your equipment and gain confidence. The onsite pool also means no ``pushing`` students to get through the course, we can do after hours training for individuals requiring special help. These skills are later taken into the ocean where they are refined and tested.
The classroom phase of the training focuses on the physics of diving, (to put it simply, what effect does saltwater and pressure have on your body?)
As a means of training you to avoid serious problems we look at diving related illnesses. The theory being if you know what causes a problem you can avoid it.
The equipment you use will also be covered in detail. We want you to feel comfortable with all your equipment, so we`ll tell you what it does and what to look for when you purchase your own. At the end of the course there is a short theory test, while your practical skills are constantly being assessed.
A Knowledgable Diver is a Safe Diver.

Club newsletter.
Don`t keep it to yourself, tell your friends. We will soon have our first social gathering.
SCUBA RANGERS
Scuba Rangers have grown rapidly, thanks to the efforts of Cathy, Andre, Darren & Tash. The support and dedication of these people is truly commendable and worthy of praise.
Good to see so many parents turn up to watch their children on Demo Day or when possible, showing their pride and interest in their children`s advancement. The Rangers not only introduce the children to Scuba, but teaches them responsibility, respect and discipline within themselves. They learn teamwork and many other things which will help them throughout life as well as diving.
PRODUCT REVIEW
A neat little retractable lanyard is available. It attaches to your BC or belt and is extremely compact. The two snap clips are joined by a stainless steel plastic coated multi strand wire, which extends to arms length, then retracts into the clip, leaving no exposed cables or strings to snap up. It is perfect for holding items from cray gauges to torches and cameras and keeping them out of your way.
We hope you all continue your diving and take the opportunity to further your knowledge and pleasure you enjoy below this big ocean of ours.
Until next time when we will have more to report, happy diving!! Don`t forget the urn is always on and we would love to see you for a chat.
