Company description The Byron Bay Dive Centre is Byron Bay`s leading dive and snorkel specialist. This diving facility was established over twenty years ago and since then our goal has always been to ensure our customers enjoy a safe, rewarding and memorable diving experience.
Join one of our guided dive trips and let us show you Julian Rocks Marine Reserve, one of Australia`s most spectacular dive sites. The Byron Bay Dive Centre caters for all levels of experience.
At the Byron Bay Dive Centre you can complete a range of PADI and SSI dive courses but be prepared to share your classroom with giant sea turtles and friendly blue gropers.
If diving`s not your thing then join one of our daily snorkelling trips to Julian Rocks. You will be amazed by the diversity and colour found in the reserve`s clear shallow waters.
he Byron Bay Dive Centre is the only diving facility in Byron Bay that issues PADI, SSI and NAUI diving certifications.
All confined water training is conducted at the dive shop, an instructor training facility, located in the heart of Byron Bay. Here we have a fully equipped classroom and a training pool heated to 25 degrees Celsius.
All open water-training dives are boat dives conducted at Julian Rocks Marine Reserve. Here you will swim with tropical species such as turtles and manta rays, as well as many interesting southern ocean animals including friendly blue gropers and wobbegongs. All this only a five-minute boat ride from Byron Bay.
Qualified scuba diving instructors supervise all course dives.
The following PADI, SSI and NAUI dive courses are available at the Byron Bay Dive Centre:
-Introduce cource
This course starts every day and takes approximately 5 hours to complete. The course includes equipment hire, one swimming pool lesson and one dive at the Julian Rocks Marine Reserve with an instructor.
-Advanced Open Water
The advanced course takes 3 days to complete and includes specialty dives such as Boat diving, Underwater naturalist, Navigation diving, Drift diving and Deep diving.
-Passport Diver
The Passport certificate starts every day and only takes 2 days to complete. The course includes equipment hire, tuition, swimming pool lessons, and two scuba dives at Julian Rocks Marine Reserve.
-Rescue Course
The Rescue course takes three days to complete. This course includes classroom sessions, 2 pool sessions and 4 boat dives.
The rescue course is divided into two components. The first deals with recognising and avoiding stress whilst engaged in diving activities and hence avoiding rescue situations. The second component deals with rescue management and the initiation of rescues.
-Open Water Diver
The Open Water course takes four days to complete. The course includes equipment hire, tuition, swimming pool lessons, 4 scuba dives and a snorkelling lesson at Julian Rocks Marine Reserve.
Once certified you will be able to dive
independent of an instructor, at any dive
shop anywhere in the world.
-Divemaster
The Divemaster course is both fun and challenging, instilling you with the necessary skills to perform as a confident dive leader.
This program takes eight days plus we have traineeships available for the right
candidates.
-Refresher Course
The scuba Refresher starts every day and takes approximately 5 hours to complete. The price includes equipment hire, one swimming pool lesson and one dive at the Julian Rocks Marine Reserve with an instructor.
-Open Water Instructor
The Open Water Instructor course takes you the next step from Divemaster level. This course will provide you with the necessary skills to be an effective dive educator.
Location description: PLANULA Divers Retreat offers beautiful B&B style accommodation and total relaxation in lush tropical gardens set on 2.5 acres. Being there feels like visiting a remote oasis, but PLANULA is just over three kilometres from the centre of Byron Bay.
Divers facilities include:
gear washing and drying areas
safe equipment storage in lockable cage
extensive reference library with identification books and literature on marine biology, diving locations, etc. and loads of diving DVDs from around the world
digital underwater cameras for hire
Tim, Byron Bay Dive Centres videographer can go out diving with you and video your dive, providing you with an everlasting memory of your stay in Byron Bay on DVD or video.
Extensive continental breakfast is included with all stays at PLANULA and is served with fresh fruit, yoghurt, a range of cereal, bread, fruit juice, tea and plunger coffee.
At night you can sample the local cuisine in one of the many fantastic restaurants in Byron or just stay at home, cook or make use of the outdoor BBQ area.
PLANULA has five modern decorated bedrooms and offers queensize double, twin share and single accommodation. All rooms look out onto our beautiful gardens. Bicycles, bodyboards and surfboard are free of charge (subject to availability).
