Company description
Charlestown Diving Academy is a PADI 5 star dive centre and TDI Instructor Training Facility. It offers both SCUBA divers and spear fishers a large range of services to cater any needs they might have.
Services offered at the shop include hiring and selling quality equipment, in addition to servicing and hydrostatic testing. CDA also has quality air and NITROX fills, as well as the regular teaching of a very large range of PADI and TDI courses right up to the instructor level.
CDA prides itself on being one of the most active social clubs in the Newcastle region. Holding regular club nights with a range of different themes. There are guest speakers from all parts of the diving industry giving casual talks on many
different aspects of diving. These include topics such as photography, latest trips away, trips planned for the future, environmental issues, trivia nights and anything members might want to know about, we love to hear suggestions. We provide a slice or two of pizza, tea and coffee facilities as well as coke and lemonade.
As a club member you receive your quarterly CDA newsletter mailed straight to your door as it`s hot off the press. You will always know what`s happening and where. We have Social Dives every weekend on Saturday as well as Sunday and if the tides are right, a night dive through the week. There are continuously weekends away along our fantastic coastline. Weekend Trips include the Solitary Islands, Fish Rock, Forster, Nelson Bay, Narooma, Jervis Bay and Eden which are all excellent diving destinations. Its very easy to become involved with these trips away by simply paying a deposit with the shop to secure you place on the trip and the Dive Shop will organise everything else for you. We can also arrange for you to do courses on these weekends. For example, on a trip to Eden, you could do an adventure wreck dive to qualify as a wreck diver. Eden has some spectacular wrecks including the Henry Bolt and the Tasman Hauler which were sunk purposely to become artificial reefs and excellent dives.
As well as weekend trips away, we also organise extended dive trips to Interstate destinations and even international destinations. We dive at places such as Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Truk Lagoon to name a few.
Here at Charlestown Diving Academy we have a large range of stock inside the dive shop and can also order any products that we do not currently have in stock from most well-known brands, even specialised or custom equipment.
While CDA caters for all aspects of SCUBA diving for all levels of divers, CDA also stocks a large range of equipment for Spear Fishing and snorkelling.
CDA sells a large range of equipment ranging from tanks, BCDs, regulators, computers, wetsuits, masks, booties and open heeled fins to dive slates, mask and fin straps and many other small but essential parts used for diving.
CDA also offers a range of other services such as equipment servicing, quality air fills and gear hire.
Spearo`s Corner is a section of the dive shop dedicated to spear fishing. This part of the shop has a rack of various spears, spear guns and shelves of other spear fishing equipment such as fins, masks and a range of other products.
Charlestown Diving Academy offers a comprehensive range of PADI courses from Open Water to Assistant Instructor. In addition to recreational courses, we also teach TDI and DSAT technical courses.

Provide courses:
-PADI Open water course
The Openwater course is a certification course requiring no previous SCUBA experience. This course is designed to give knowledge, skills and confidence to independently plan and conduct your own dives to a maximum depth of 18 m without instructor supervision. Your PADI C Card will allow you to hire equipment, procure air fills and other dive services from virtually any dive store world wide.
-PADI Adventure Diver Program
Continuing your training beyond the Open water Diver level has some tangible benefits - doing so introduces you to specialised diving activities and gets you acquainted with diving in a wider variety of aquatic environments. The Adventure Diver program is wonderfully flexible, as it requires that you complete three dives from a list of sixteen different electives.
-PADI Advanced Open water course
The advanced Open water program is also designed to give you a taste of the more specialised diving activities that are available and includes the 2 core dives, Deep and Navigation, as well as 3 elective dives, including a Boat dive. As well as certifying you to dive to 30 metres/100 feet, completing the Advanced Open Water course also provides the benefit that it enables you to proceed onto higher levels of training so for this reason we include an orientation to the PADI Rescue Diver Program.
-PADI Rescue Diver
The PADI Rescue Diver program prepares you to prevent, and if necessary, manage dive emergencies, minor and major, with a variety of techniques. Most certified Rescue Divers look back on their rescue training as one of the most challenging - sometimes demanding - and therefore most rewarding programs they have ever taken. The subject is serious, but the training is fun. Of greatest importance however is the fact that this course, more than any other, will great enhance your skill and confidence as a diver.
During the open water training exercises, you`ll apply the knowledge you`ve learned as you develop rescue skills. As you master rescue techniques, you`ll learn to adapt what you practice to suit the situation: your physical attributes, those of the victim and the nature of the diving environment. The PADI Rescue Diver philosophy says that there is no single ``right`` way to perform a rescue; rather, the program provides a ``tool box`` of techniques and knowledge for you to draw from in an emergency. You`ll practise these skills in an actual diving environment after having become familiar with the fundamental skills in a pool environment.
-PADI Divemaster
In Preparing you for leadership, the PADI Divemaster course is an extensive program that embraces many skill and knowledge areas, familiarity with which will enable you to confidently perform the many duties a Divemaster is called upon to fulfil. Nothing in the course should be beyond your ability to master.
