Company description St George Scuba Club is an independent dive club with no association to any commercial dive operation. It is one of Sydney`s oldest scuba diving clubs and is older than any current Sydney dive shop (it has no relationship to the dive shop of a similar name). Its committee is directly elected by its members. The Club is based on the southern side of Sydney but we have members from all over Sydney and nearby areas. Our club is a non-profit organisation and, consequently, we believe that the cost of our diving activities to members and our guests is excellent.
We believe that St George Scuba Club is Sydney`s friendliest and most active independent dive club, run by and for its members. Everyone is welcome, from the very experienced to the novice diver. As we have some of Australia`s most experienced divers, there is no better way for you to improve your skills than diving with us. Our members dive every weekend of the year and the Club organises many weekends away We also organise shark dives, wreck dives, seal dives and night dives in Sydney.
Have a browse through this web site to learn more about the Club and its activities. Then, if you think that you would like to join, check out the meetings page or download a membership form and join the Club. You can be certain that you are joining the friendliest and most active independent dive Club in Sydney.
Safe diving is our highest priority and we ensure that less experienced or newly certificated divers are buddied with experienced members. As indicated above, the members of our Club are amongst the most experienced scuba divers in Australia. We are always happy to dive with newer divers or those who have not dived for a while.
Experienced members also assess conditions at dive sites and are available to give advice and assistance. We believe that the confidence and accelerated skills that new divers acquire when diving with us are advantages that our club is able to offer. Our safety record is excellent. Whilst dives are restricted to certified scuba divers, prospective members including non-divers and their friends are welcome to come along to any of our activities such as nights out, day trips and weekends away.
When doing boat dives in Sydney, we mostly use members` boats. These boats are skippered by very experienced boat drivers/divers (some are commercial coxswains) and the boats have safety equipment that meets or exceeds the legal requirements. The skippers know the best dive sites, including dozens not visited by charter operators. Since we use the same boats each weekend, we are used to the diving procedure for each boat giving added safety.
St George Scuba Club is a founding member of the Scuba Clubs Association of NSW (SCAN) and is committed to its aims and ideals, including diving codes of conduct.
One of the prime benefits of joining St George Scuba Club is the ability to dive with some of Australia`s most experienced divers. Safe diving is our highest priority and we ensure that less experienced or newly certified divers are buddied with experienced members. We are always happy to dive with newer divers or those who have not dived for a while.

Whilst dives are restricted to certified scuba divers, prospective members including non-divers and their friends are welcome to come along to any of our activities such as nights out, day trips and weekends away.
We have plenty of social activities spread out over the year, including BBQs at members` homes and restaurant nights.
Location description: The Club plans shore and boat dives around the Sydney area. Around Sydney we mostly use the services of members` boats. We currently have five boats in the Club, capable of carrying a total of about 30 divers. These boats are driven by some of the most experienced divers in Sydney and our members know the best dive sites, ones not even visited by charter operators.
Regular dives are:
Most Wednesdays we have a boat dive
Every Thursday we have a night dive
Deep wreck dive the first Saturday of each month (only for suitably experienced divers)
As well as the above, we plan one or two boat dives a month, most of these are out of Port Hacking or Botany Bay but we do some dives from Sydney Harbour. These are mostly held on Sundays. Shore dives are held about once a month, mostly on the south side of the City. See the local dive photos page for photographs from such a dive.
As well, many members of the club dive every weekend with each other on non-Club planned dives. These are on members` boats or quite often, shore dives. The Club is one of the most active in the Sydney area.
We also have regular family dive days where we dive and then have a BBQ at the dive site at which families of members are encouraged to attend. In addition, we have a Christmas Party, usually in conjunction with a dive. The Club normally provides the food for the Christmas Party. Some of the places where we have had this party is Captain Cooks Landing Place at Kurnell and Oak Park at Cronulla. In 2005 it is at Kurnell.
Other activities include visits to hyperbaric chambers, dive conferences, the Sydney Boat Show and equipment displays. In recent years members have gone on bushwalking trips, both local and overseas, as well as 4WD trips to places like Cape York and the Outback.
