1890: Establishment of a ferry service between Townsville and Magnetic Island.
1924: The first regular ferry service to Green Island commences
1937: Operation of the world’s first glass bottom boat.
1954: Opening of the world’s first underwater observatory on Green Island.
1983: Pioneered the use of the semi-submersible boat for coral viewing.
1991: Subsidiary company, Great Diving Adventures, commences operations.
1992: Installation of three-level pontoons at Norman and Moore Reef.
1993: Completion of the AUD$26 million project providing new day facilities on Green Island.
1994: Official opening of the AUD$45 million eco-friendly Green Island Resort.
2004: Awarded an elite 15 year operational permit by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, being the only 100% Cairns-based operator with this permit.

No experience is necessary to take a fully supervised introductory dive and explore the reef and its amazing marine life. Snorkel tours are a great way to maximise your experience on the Great Barrier Reef with many magnificent sites to capture the excitement. Certified divers can enjoy spectacular dives at our specially selected sites. Age and medical restrictions may apply to diving.

Great Adventures’ pontoon on the Great Barrier Reef is the only place in Australia where you can cruise the reef on your own underwater scooter! No experience is necessary and non-swimmers welcome. It`s great fun and your professional guide will take you on an underwater journey to remember. Age and medical conditions apply.
Seawalker
Available on Green Island. For an amazing underwater walking experience, let Seawalker`s expert guides show you the wonders of the reef as you stroll along Green Island lagoon`s sea floor. There`s no equipment to operate, non-swimmers welcome and you don`t even have to get your hair wet! Age and medical conditions apply.
Glass Bottom Boat
Experience the reef with its beautiful coral gardens and amazing marinelife while keeping dry in one of our modern Coral Explorer glass bottom boats. Glass bottom boat tours are included with, or optional in all Green Island packages.
Helicopter Joy Flights
Enjoy spectacular views of Green Island and the Great Barrier Reef. Sit back, relax and enjoy this safe and exhilarating bird’s eye view of the reef.
Green Island Beach Hire
Enjoy activities such as canoeing, surfskiing and windsurfing or relax with a cold drink on your personal sun lounge with a parasol on the beach.

Underwater Observatory
Located at the Green Island jetty is a piece of marine history. This old diving chamber used during World War 1 was converted into the world’s first underwater observatory.

Marineland Melanesia
