Company description
Since 1986, HABA has been providing excellent friendly service to the Great Barrier Reef.
Our vessel Evolution is a large fast catamaran. Stable and comfortable, this vessel will take you to the outer Great Barrier Reef
HABA DIVE AND SNORKEL started out as Coral Sea Diving Services in 1986. The company was owned by a group of businessmen including Greg Chapel. (The Sanctuary Cove developers).
In August 1989, the company was sold to a Japanese cosmetics company called HABA. The acronym stood for ``Health And Beauty Aid``. They also owned the Port Douglas Pandanus Caravan Park and the adjacent Restaurant Zai.
By 1992 the Duff family bought the company & changed the name to Port Douglas Dive and Tours. With a firm reputation as a professional and friendly organisation the decision was made to continue trading as Haba Dive.
On the 1st of July 1998 the company changed hands once more and was bought by the current owners and locals, Bruce Funch and Josann Reynolds.
During the nineteen years of operating the best reef trips out of Port Douglas, HABA has run a number of boats. These include:
1986- MV AQUANAUT
1989- MV HABA QUEEN
1997- MV DIVE HARD (Name changed to MV KEITH KRAMER in Feb 2000)
2001- MV HABA DIVE

Location description:
The Great Barrier Reef region stretches for over 2000 kilometres along the coast of Queensland, from just north of Fraser Island in the South (Latitude 24 degrees 30 minutes South) to beyond Cape York in the North (Latitude 10 degrees South). It covers an area of about 350 000 square kilometres on the continental shelf of Australia. Great Barrier Reef Map
In the second century B.C. the writer Antipater of Sidon drew up a list of the seven wonders of the world. The Pyramids of Egypt, the oldest of the seven, is the only wonder still substantially in existence. Since then the seven wonders of the natural world have been designated - Mount Everest, Victoria Falls, the Grand Canyon, Northern Lights, Paricutin in Mexico, Rio de Janeiro harbour and the Great Barrier Reef. In 1981 the Reef was inscribed on the World Heritage list, affirming its significance to the world community.
* It is an outstanding representation of a major stage of the earth`s evolutionary history.
* It is an outstanding example of significant ongoing geological processes, biological evolution and man`s interaction with his natural environment.
* It contains unique, rare and superlative natural phenomena, formations and features and areas of exceptional natural beauty.
* It provides habitats where populations of rare and endangered species of plants and animals still survive.
The Reef also meets all the required conditions for integrity. It contains all or nearly all the key interrelated and interdependent elements necessary for the continuation of its being and its continued development, and for the preservation of the species which inhabit it.
World Largest Marine Park
In 1983, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park was increased to 348,700 square kilometres by the Australian Government, covering 98.5 per cent of the Reef and making it the largest marine park in the world.
Species Variety
Aside from the coral, the Great Barrier Reef is probably best-known for its spectacular variety of fish. Over 1500 species, from coral trout and sweetlips to marlin can be found in Reef waters. The range of sizes, shapes and colours combine with the overwhelming beauty of the coral itself to make the Great Barrier Reef one of the world`s natural wonders.
The Reef is also home to a bewildering array of invertebrates, including molluscs such as trochus and helmet shells, cowries and giant clams; echinoderms, among them the infamous crown of thorns starfish, crustaceans, many a gourmet`s delight, worms and ascidians
