Company description
We offer dive courses & programs from introductory dives up to instructor level.
At Merimbula Divers Lodge, you can try SCUBA diving, even if you have never dived before! Tick off that item on your list of `things you`ve always wanted to do`. You can just have a go in our pool, specially constructed for dive instruction, or you can experience an open water, shore based, dive. At all times, you will be under the close supervision of a highly qualified instructor. During the program, you will receive some basic theoretical and practical instruction, then, if you have elected the open water option, it`s off to do the real thing!
Passport Diver Program.
The Passport Diver Program is designed for those who will dive regularly, but infrequently. Once again, you will be under the close supervision of an instructor at all times. To attain your passport, you will complete a theory session at the Merimbula Divers Lodge, and practical instruction in the pool. Then it`s off to enjoy two dives in the open water! After that, you can keep your passport current by undertaking two dives every six months under the supervision of a dive leader. This program does not qualify you to conduct unsupervised dives.
Open Water Diver course.
The Open Water Diver course is a comprehensive, internationally recognized course leading to trained divers capable of planning & conducting dives independently. With an Open Water Diver qualification from the Merimbula Divers Lodge, you can hire or buy dive gear and go diving anywhere in the world! The course takes about 4 days, either full time or part time, tailored to meet your schedule & needs. All equipment, materials, charter fees, pool entries, tuition etc are included in the course cost. The only extra you have to pay for is the cost of a diving medical examination. From this point, you can start gaining specialty ratings in areas that interest you.
Also, while you are on your course with the Merimbula DIvers Lodge, you receive special discounts and packages to set you up with all the gear you need to continue your diving career.
Qualified Divers
Night & Limited Visibility
Night diving is one of the most enjoyable aspects of this sport. Just as on dry land, the night brings out a host of creatures that spend the days hiding & sleeping protected in inaccessible nooks & crannies. This course involves a little theory, and two night dives where you learn the practical skills of diving in the dark, or where visibility is reduced. Merimbula offers some of the best night diving experiences, both from sh
ore and boat.
Computer Diving
Like many aspects of life, technology has had a huge impact on diving practices. Using a dive computer has many important benefits. They can increase bottom times on repetitive dives, reduce accidents caused by human error using dive tables, and have many other advantages. However, there are limits and it is very important to understand and work within those limits. Any diver that has just bought, or is considering buying, a dive computer should do this course! Buy an Uwatec dive computer from the merimbula Divers Lodge, and do a course for free!
Stress & Rescue
Scuba diving is an adventure sport and entails accepting that there is a certain amount of risk. Therefore, there is an increased risk that you may be witness to, or even a participant in, a stressful or rescue situation at some stage in your diving life. This course teaches you to recognize problems, and how to assist & manage a stressful or rescue scenario. The Stress & Rescue course at Merimbula Divers Lodge is a pre-requisite for the leadership level courses.

Boat Diving
Entering & leaving the water requires forethought & planning, in any environment. Diving from boats is very different from shore diving. Generally, there are a number of people all trying to put on gear, get it off, get in & out of the water in a limited amount of space. There are areas that need to stay dry, and others that are off limits to passengers. Conducting dives safely & without inconveniencing others others, requires a few special skills and some patience. Live aboard dive holidays are marvelous adventures and this course from the Merimbula Divers Lodge will enhance your holiday and boat diving experience.
Navigation
Ending up a significant distance from where you thought you were, can be frustrating & tiring. Underwater, you don`t have the luxury of stopping to ask for directions. Navigation techniques are skills that anyone can learn. With the knowledge and practice gained on this course at the Merimbula Divers Lodge, you need never get lost again!
