Company description Pro Dive is Cairns’ premier Dive School and Outer Reef liveaboard dive operator. Since 1983 we have developed an international reputation for quality, professionalism, safety and value. We are locally owned and operated by Rod Punshon and Quicksilver Connections. We specialise in 3 areas, dive courses, 3 day 2 night live aboard dive trips for certified divers and retail sales of dive, snorkel and water sports equipment. Our 3 premium, custom built, multi million dollar liveaboard dive vessels provide the ideal way to really experience the Great Barrier Reef. These vessels are the only outer reef liveaboard dive boats in the area that are purpose built for what they do. Each vessel carries a maximum of only 32 passengers and all accommodation on board is twin share.
For clients undertaking dive training Pro Dive Cairns is the premium dive school in Cairns.
We are a PADI 5 Star Training and Instructor Development centre. This means that you’ll get the highest standards of dive education available.
Our modern, purpose built, dive centre provides the best diver training facilities available with 3 air-conditioned classrooms and a large, 4 metre deep, heated training pool. Our experienced instructors are carefully selected for their personality, customer service ability and passion for diving, teaching and the Great Barrier Reef.
The Pro Dive Cairns retail centre is situated in the heart of Cairns and offers the largest range of dive and watersport product available. We also provide the highest service standards available in the area. Our dedicated and knowledgeable retail staff can advise on the best products to suit your specific requirements.
Our 16 exclusive dive sites are situated on some of the best Outer Great Barrier Reef locations. These sites are chosen for their spectacular coral formations, varied marine life and consistent visibility. On every trip we visit a variety of these spectacular, uncrowded and unspoilt locations ensuring a memorable experience for all our customers.
Pro Dive Cairns has a staff of more than 60 committed diving professionals. Many of these people have been with us for a number of years with some with more than 15 years of dedicated service to the company. We regularly experience many of the diving options available from Tropical North Queensland and therefore can arrange any type of diving available, or required, including Learn To Dive courses, 1 day dive trips, and extended live-aboard cruises, at a range of Great Barrier Reef locations such as Ribbon Reefs, Cod Hole and the Coral Sea. Some of the trips available on this web site are our own, and some are trips of other reputable operators. The trips from other companies are regularly experienced by the staff and only available because they offer a level of standards and service that compliment and apply to our own trips.

Location description: The Great Barrier Reef is a natural wonder of the world and a declared World Heritage site. It is made up of approximately 2900 separate reefs stretching as far north as Cape York and south to Bundaberg along the Queensland Coast. With approximately 400 different species of coral which includes both hard and soft corals and 1500 species of fish it is no wonder one can never be bored diving or snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef. Some of the more exclusive and non populated reefs and dive sites the Great Barrier Reef has to offer are Flynn, Milln, Thetford and Pellowe. These reefs are where our 16 dive sites are located.
Every year more and more divers and snorkellors are having close encounters with the Dwarf Minke Whales. The Humpback Whales are sometimes more commonly sighted breaching in the distance and from the reef and while our vessels are moored at the reef. The Humpback Whales are generally a more timid than the Dwarf Minke Whales but put on a more spectacular show for everybody.
The experience of interacting with whales is something not to be missed. If you’re not sure of what time of the year you should be planning to do your dive course or a liveaboard dive trip to the Great Barrier Reef from Cairns then what better reason than this to book for this time of year!
Another major event that occurs on the Great Barrier Reef usually during the month of November is “Coral Spawning”. Also described as “sex on the reef”! This simultaneous mass spawning of corals was first scientifically observed in 1981. This event usually only happens at night and requires several contributing factors for the coral to spawn which can make it very difficult to predict specific dates. If you would like to experience this event then a liveaboard dive trip provides you with more night dives. Our 3 Day 2 Night Liveaboard dive trip gives you the opportunity to do two night dives.
