Company description
Sundive is Byron Bay`s only PADI dive centre. Since it was established in 1988, Sundive has earned numerous PADI service awards and is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence in diver training. Training ranges from beginner dive courses through to instructor certifications.
Under new ownership since July 2002, Sundive still has all the friendly faces that you have grown accustomed to plus the added energy of new owner Giacomo (Jack) Cavazzini. As a team, the Sundive Crew deliver an unequivocally consistent, safe service with the training, education and passion needed to make your diving experience one to remember.
The PADI Discover Scuba Diving program introduces people to scuba diving in a highly supervised and relaxed manner. Under the guidance of a PADI professional, new divers learn basic safety concepts, put on equipment and swim around underwater in a closely supervised environment.
At Sundive your introductory experience will consist of a short theory and pool session followed by a supervised dive. We therefore allow you to become familiar with the equipment and teach you the basics before exploring the Marine Park. The dive is by boat at the Marine Park, all under the watchful eye of one of our experienced instructors. We will tour you around the Nursery area, the shallowest and most protected site at the Julian Rocks.
Expect to see many species of tropical and non-tropical marine life. Turtles, Leopard Sharks, Wobbegongs. you name it.
This is a fantastic introduction to Scuba for those unsure of a complete course or those a little short on time.
Snorkeling tours of the Julian Rocks are available every day. Snorkelers are taken to the most protected and sheltered areas possible, usually the Nursery. Here the depths are shallow (5 to 12m) and you will see just as much marine life as the divers. Have a look at the photo gallery to get a good idea of what to expect. All snorkelers are carefully supervised and the boat is only ever a short swim away. This is a great introduction to the marine life in the area.
The boat trip itself is also lots of fun. We regularly see dolphins and whales when in season. From June to August humpback whales travel up the east coast of Australia. From September they travel back down the coast with their newly born calves. As Cape Byron is the most easterly point in Australia, it`s a great spot to do a little whale watching. When time and ocean conditions permit we include a little sightseeing of the Cape and coastline. It`s a great view of the lighthouse from the water.

Sundive will cater for dive clubs and groups of any size. Boats are available for private charter and costs will be determined with respect to group size, dive location(s) and time of year.
Technical divers will be pleased to note that we have access to some of the best dives on the East Coast to a depth of 50m. So if you prefer your dives a little deeper and more technical, get a couple of buddies together and book out one of our boats.
Dive clubs should also take heed that we are waiting to look after your divers. Organise a group of divers and we will look at the possibility of a group discount and help with any accommodation planning that may be required. Again, discounts will be dependant upon group size and time of year.
