Company description
Dive Rarotonga is the only PADI 5* Instructor Development Centre in the Cook Islands and is also a BSAC diving resort. We offer quality diving in a fun and friendly atmosphere - so whether you are diving for fun, these are your first bubbles, or you want to progress your professional diving career, we have dives to suit you
At Dive Rarotonga, we offer a full range of courses, from PADI Discover Scuba Diving - which will allow you to dive with an Instructor while you are on holiday - through to PADI Instructor.
It is a PADI standard that from the 1st January 2006 all students have their own copy of the required materials for each diving course. This means that we have changed our pricing structure on courses above Open Water so you can chose to have us purchase the materials for you or to bring them yourself. See our prices and booking page for more information.
We also do referrals.
We love to dive the beautiful coral reef surrounding Rarotonga 4 times a day, 7 days a week, so join us and we`ll show you the best the island has to offer! You can choose your dive times - check out below for more details - and even choose your dive site (weather permitting, of course!).
We will do everything we can to ensure that you get the very best out of your Dive Rarotonga experience!
Dive Times: We offer morning and afternoon dive trips, so you can choose the best time to suit you. We dive 4 times a day with the main dive times at 8:00am and 1:30pm, 7 days a week. You can choose to do a single dive or a two tank dive* at either of these times - the choice is yours!
Rental Gear: We offer a full range of equipment for hire including new 5mm short suits, BCDs and Mares and Apex regulators. All our gear is regularly serviced, kept tidy and up-to-date. We regularly replace our gear to ensure that you have the best equipment possible. We are also a registered hydrostatic test centre, testing and servicing all our own cylinders to ensure your safety at all times. Worried about what you breathe? Our air is double filtered, tested and certified to IANTD Oxygen clean standards.
Service: We have manufacturer trained service technicians just in case your regulator needs a tweak whilst you are on holiday or your cylinder needs a hydrostatic test.
Pool: For training, we have a shallow pool for those first bubbles and a purpose built 3.2m deep training pool on site. Ideal to practice those backwards rolls!!
Classroom: Located at the rear of the building our classroom is situated next to the pool offering an ideal learning environment. With TV, Video, DVD and Slide
projection equipment we can liven up those classroom sessions!
Service
Does your regulator need adjusting or a full service? We have manufacturer trained service technicians just in case your regulator or B.C.D. needs adjusting whilst you are on holiday.
We are also a registered hydrostatic test centre, testing a large percentage of the islands scuba cylinders and, of course, our own. Maybe your cylinder needs a hydrostatic test? (o.k.... so I hadn`t thought about the excess baggage allowance to get it here!)
Location description:
Our boats: We have 2 Mac 5.7m boats designed specifically for diving. This means that we can offer comfort while always keeping our diving groups small (max 6 divers). The boats are set up with tank racks and storage allowing divers to gear up on dry land. Ever been sea sick? Well if you have, you`ll appreciate having your gear assembled and ready to go, so when the boats stops it`s a quick buddy check and in you get!
Launch sites: There are 4 launch sites around Rarotonga, meaning we can almost always find a calm spot to dive. Although we use all 4, we are the only Dive Centre with one of our boats permanently moored at one of the sites, meaning you don`t have to help with the launching of the boat. And, we have access to toilets and showers to make your breaks that little bit more `comfortable`!
Safety: Our boats are surveyed and equipped with all appropriate safety gear including oxygen, first aid and marine radio etc (inspections are welcomed). During each dive we always ensure your safety by keeping a first aid trained coxswain on the boat at all times. The nearest hospital is approx 2km from the dive centre.
Night Dives: We also offer regular night dives - how about watching the sun go down over the South Pacific before rolling over the side to explore after dark? Simply ask us if you fancy a dip after dark.
Guided: Our dives are always guided (unless specifically requested) at no extra cost and we are proud to have by far the most experienced dive master in the Cook Islands. Yes, Eric is still with Dive Raro after how many years is it...? Certainly more than 20!! And he still dives 6 days a week!
Marine Life: We are very proud of the fact that the graceful hump backed whale chooses the waters of Rarotonga to rest with her calf on her migration back to the colder southern waters. And, there`s lots more - over 70 species of colourful coral, moray eels, reef sharks, lion fish, turtles, maori wrasse, anemone fish, butterfly fish, angel fish, rays, puffer fish, trumpet fish and many, many
more!
Water Temperature & Visibility: We experience a range of temperatures from 23° C to 29° C (no more dry-suits - yippee! - Kat). The visibility in the waters around Rarotonga is always great - upwards of 20m! So you need never fear missing that turtle!
Briefings: You`ll be given a full briefing of the dive site and safety info by our staff before each dive so you`ll know just what to expect when we get submersed. Then, after the dive, you are invited to join us for a debriefing back at the school - complete with refreshments - a great chance to get those log books filled in.
Bad Weather: Ok, so we live on a beautiful South Pacific Island where the sun always shines..! But occasionally it blows a hooley! (is that a word??) If this is the case you won`t find us diving. After all, diving is supposed to be fun! Hanging over the side feeding the fish, doesn`t count as fun in our book. We won`t take you out just to take your money!
