Company description There is an abundance of white sand beaches and the swimming opportunities are excellent. Most beaches are protected by a coral reef which makes them unsuitable for swimming at low tide. There are no sandy swimming beaches in Nuku`alofa township. The best beaches on Tongatapu are to be found at `Anahulu, Laulea, Oholei, Fua`a-motu, Monotapu, `Utukehe, Fahina, Ha`atafu and Hufangalupe. On the islands of Ha`apai virtually all the beaches are exceptional. Vava`u has Ene`io, Keitahi, Toula, Talau fanga and the castaway island of Nuku. Conchologists rate Tongan shells as amongst the finest in the Pacific. there is a rich collection of almost all of the shells to be found in the Indo-Pacific area. The clear lagoons, colorful reefs and beaches of the Ha`apai group provide the best area for the serious shell collector.
Diving and snorkelling is magic in these turquoise and blue waters visibility generally extends 20 to 35 meters. There is a wide range of dive sites offering virgin hard corals, brightly coloured soft corals, life size sea fan grottos, wall diving. All equipment can be hired, spectacular diving tours arranged and if required diving instruction and full diver courses provided by PADI qualified dive operators.

Location description: Set your jib and you`re off...on a close reach for Paradise. During March to October Nuku`alofa and Vava`u are the mecca for many ocean going yachts. Sailing conditions are excellent, with light, predictable trade winds. The water is warm and exceptionally clear. More than 50 anchorages would be classified ``world class`` in this cruising area. You`ll sail among the most beautiful islands in the world, islands that are at their best from the sailor`s seaward perspective. Here are glorious expanses of clear, acquamarine water, gleaming stretches of sand, secluded coves and all far beyond the reach of crowded cruise ships and ordinary tourists.
From June to November the waters around Tonga play host to the spectacular Humpback Whales. The whales migrate to the tropical waters around Tonga to give birth to their calves that were conceived during the previous season. Humpbacks are distinguished from other whales by their extraordinarily long flippers (up to 5 metres or a third of they body lenght. Condition permitting you may be able to swim with the whales! You can also hire on the boat an underwater video camera, provide you with a tape to take home, should you wish to video your encounter. As well as humpback whales we sometimes encounter pilot whales and the smaller spinner dolphins.
The coral reefs in Tonga are virtually untouched in beauty and variety and are equal to any in the world. The rare and much sought-after fan black coral is found in abundance in Tongan waters and there are dropoffs, caves, deep reefs, lagoons and sunken ships all awaiting the adventrous diver. There is no mass production of handcrafts in Tonga, so the visitor still has an opportunity to view the traditional methods of basket making, weaving and tapa making. You can visit a local Museum at the Tongan National Centre.
