Albion man died during diving for urchin
51-year-old diver Paul Hartley of Albion drowned Thursday afternoon near Salmon Beach.
A commercial urchin diver was diving for urchins with the F/V Sunshine when he was found dead near the boat at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Mendocino County Sheriff’s officials said.
He was dragged on board by the skipper, who called for help and began CPR. Hartley is the 13th person who died in waters off the coast of Sonoma and Mendocino counties this year.
UK. Diver died after being airlifted to hospital
A diver was airlifted to hospital this morning after surfacing from a dive unconscious off Portland Bill. Unfortunately the diver died later in the day.
Portland Coastguard received a message at 9.37am from the boat called Shiraz who reported that they were trying to recover an unconscious man from the water east of Grove Point near Portland.
Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 106 flew to the dive boat and other dive vessels in the area also proceeded in order to recover other divers from the water at the time. The unconscious scuba diver was airlifted to Dorset County Hospital and was taken by a team from Accident and Emergency.
On its return, the dive boat was met by Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Officers. Unfortunately the male diver was later declared deceased by staff at the hospital.
