Before fatal diving session, diver noticed problems with the battery for his propulsion device.
Gene White noticed how little charge was left in the battery that operated his propulsion device before he took his fatal dive last Saturday afternoon. He wandered aloud whether it would last through the entire session. However Gene White went scallop diving in deep water off Long Beach Island where he was found dead by one of his fellow divers few hours later.
Gene White 42, was found on the sea-bed tethered to his underwater scooter. One of the divers tried to tup a regulator in his mouth to help him breathe, but White was already dead.
He was described as "one-of-a-kind man" by his fellows who are mourning a friend known for his wisdom and experience in the water.
The investigation will be carried out to determine what caused White's death.
