Detroit Police diver found statue worth $100,000 in river
Earlier this month Detroit Police diver Sgt. Michael Carpenter was sent to check sunken Jeep near the foot of Alter Road. During the dive he felt a head and a hand sticking out of the muck near the car. These body part weren't human and at the beginning Sgt. Carpenter thought it was an old cement statue but later on he discovered it was made of bronze.
One of his colleagues made a photo on mobile phone and sent it to his friend in historical society who said that it looks like the statue that was stolen from the war memorial about 8 years ago and his guess was right.
Yesterday a bronze Harriet Whitney Frishmuth statue worth about $100.000 called "The Nude" has been placed back at the Gross Point War Memorial.
